Garnier, an international haircare and skincare brand, is the second-largest brand of the L'Oréal Group.
In March 2019, Garnier announced the launch of a new product tag line – “By Garnier, Naturally” – to serve as a stamp of the brand's commitment to sustainability. The company prides in itself being a guarantor of its century of experience in ingredient-focused hair care, colour, and skincare formulated with naturally-inspired ingredients.
With this new signature launch, Garnier pledges to continue its efforts to reduce plastic use by committing to 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) waste for shampoo, conditioner and leave-in conditioner bottles for its most popular Fructis Sleek & Shine haircare line, by the end of 2019. Presently, Garnier Fructis hair care products are produced in a zero-waste facility and its current packaging contains 50% PCR waste. Additionally, the Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine formula uses sustainably sourced Argan Oil from Southwest Morocco.
To promote the news, Garnier has launched an education-based mobile "Greenhouse Tour" in select retail locations which will include sampling, coupons, live product and recycling demonstrations and interactive ingredient experiences.
Garnier has been working with TerraCycle since 2011 to promote responsible recycling. Since the partnership inception, the brand has prevented more than 11.7 million empties from landfills, helping to improve the personal care and beauty packaging waste issue with its free recycling program for hair care, skincare and cosmetic product empties.
L’Oreal, the parent brand of Garnier has set a target of reducing the environmental footprint of its plants and distribution centres by 60% by 2020, from a 2005 baseline. The reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in absolute terms, of water consumption and waste generation per finished product unit, and the reduction of impacts related to transportation have become a fundamental criterion for L’Oréal’s industrial performance.
