I was fortunate to have an offer from OLX during the Summer Placements for the Product Management role. The beautiful journey began on 1st April 2020 and ended on 29th May 2020.
With my LinkedIn feed flooded with offers getting rescinded and internships delayed/cancelled due to the COVID situation, I feared that the same might happen with my internship but despite the pandemic, OLX had been very accomodating, they dynamically revamped the internship structure and ensured that we were engaged for the committed duration virtually.
During my internship, I worked on two live projects which not only enhanced my learning about the business but made a deep impact on OLX as well. The first project was “Buy-side inspection flows for transaction closure” and the second one was “Meeting Scheduler”. It was an enriching experience with a very steep learning curve. I got a hang of several product-related tools and learnt the ways of working at OLX. The best thing about this role was talking to the different team members and the customers. We get a lot of perspectives while talking to people with different thinking and people who are working in different fields. Also, I got to see the entire product journey. It was interesting to see how one comes up with an idea, research team helps you in researching if that idea is worth implementing or not. Then the design team, analytics team, development and marketing teams keep on adding their contribution and finally, we are there with a new product. It also gives immense satisfaction if we are able to solve the problems of customers. Overall I would say these two months proved to be quite productive for me and the learnings from this internship will remain with me forever.
It was a pleasure working/interacting with a group of highly motivated and friendly people. Everyone in the organization was very helpful and special thanks to all those who worked hard to make this internship a success. The 8 weeks of virtual summer internship have been truly remarkable!
