My five-year-old niece ran into my arms, on her eyes was the glitter of joy!!
I had gone home after my two months internship in another city. The gush of excitement of working in corporate office and exploring and learning the world of business had given way to another excitement, the joy of going home. Back in my hometown my little niece was eagerly waiting for her aunt to come home as I had been away for a long time.
But before I packed my bags and went home, I had to get something special for my little sweetheart. And thus, I set out on long and arduous task of gift hunting. Malls, boutiques and even handcraft stores fell short of my expectations. At this point it struck me that I will get my perfect gift at the perfect store, Pantaloons! And it turned out to be just that. The best quality fabric, trendiest designs and wide range of products and sizes. The ever-helpful staff was always available for assistance. The only dilemma then was to narrow down on my choices! In the end I did manage to get the perfect outfit for my fashionista!
When my nice opened her gift, she fell in love with it and insisted that it was her favorite outfit. Pantaloons has been my go-to fashion destination. The brand has something for everyone. IT Days...
My heart was racing and my mind was in a turmoil. Day and nights were blurring into a continuum…
I was very excited for my first job at an IT major. Moving into a metro city with friends and embarking on a professional career was an exciting prospect but there was a little concern in my heart as I was a civil engineer who was going to work with an IT firm. After the mandatory training of two months, I was assigned to a project. The support project of a major client to which I was assigned had three shifts, morning, afternoon and night. As the days turned to weeks and months, the excitement was ebbing. The reason for the dipping enthusiasm was the notorious night shifts where one or two members of the team would work in the office, with entire empty floors and corridors. It was also a time when the nation was rocked with many never wracking news about lack of women’s safety even in metros and highly secure buildings.
This was a period of turmoil for me as the job was both mentally and physically taxing. Adding fuel to fire was the concerns from family and looming challenge of interviews.
At this challenging juncture in my life a few people helped me immensely in tracking and overcoming these challenges. The first person was my project lead, who went out of her way to ensure safe and smooth transport facilities to and from the office. My buddy at work also constantly reassured me and helped to excel in my work with encouraging words and leading by example. My brother also played a critical role in helping me come to terms with the challenging and taxing life of IT professionals and gave me inputs on coping with work and work timings.
In time I learnt to be efficient and effective at work. And when I was leaving the team, it was indeed with a heavy heart and lots of wonderful memories.
It was a difficult and steep learning curve but an exciting one none the less.
