I would say Aditya Birla Group as ubiquitous as a corporate conglomerate can hope to be. From cement to clothes they are present in almost every consumer segment one can imagine. They have impacted the lives of many Indians including me.

Peter England

In my family Peter England has been synonymous with formal clothing. My Dad has been using clothes by them since the start of his professional career. It’s no wonder that when I got my first job after graduation, he took me to Peter England store. In all my years of dealing with them, I’ve found the quality of their offering unmatched by any other clothing brand. The staff employed across all its outlets have been courteous and respectful at all times. Peter England also makes sure that the customers loyal to the brand feel valued, towards this they put out timely discounts for the loyal clientele.

Idea

Idea has been the chosen telecom provider of our family since I can remember. Network coverage offered by Idea is unmatched by any of its competitors, especially in Maharashtra. Also the network is as reliable as one could want it to be. We have never faced issues with network connectivity no matter how remote our location. Also, the customer care at Idea has never disappointed us. They have been prompt and courteous at all times. In Spite of the recent troubles faced by Idea and erosion of its market share and stock value, my family has stuck with it as we know Aditya Birla Group can never disappoint its customers.

Part B: How I have overcome challenges to achieve my goals

Undergraduate college is a time of self-discovery for everyone. It’s a period where one transitions from boyhood to adulthood. The challenges faced and choices made during this time go a long way in shaping your future. One such challenge was my tryst with car manufacturing competitions.

BAJA SAE used to be, still is, quite the rage amongst Mechanical engineering graduates. It consists of designing and building a single seater Off-Road vehicle. The competition has 2 rounds, first is the pitching round where teams from all over India pitch their car designs to BAJA judges. Teams that impress the judges are then allowed to build their designs and compete at Off-road racetrack in Pithampur Indore in round two. Teams from our college had never managed to crack the pitching round and consequently never got the chance to make the Off-Road buggy. I thought my batch could change this. We were a group of hot blooded soon-to-be Mechanical engineers, who thought they had enough fire in the belly to not only crack the pitching round, but also win the competition. We went ahead full steam with our preparations and delivered the presentation to panel of judges. As fate would have it, our team was rejected, again. This experience crushed spirits of most of us and many gave up participating in such competition altogether. But not everyone had chosen to throw in the towel. We got to know that our relative inexperience, or no experience to put it bluntly, in manufacturing the car is what caused us to be rejected all these years.

SUPRA SAE is a competition along similar lines as BAJA. Only instead of an Off-Road buggy, this one involves building an open cockpit, single seater F1 style race car. Me along with 2 members from my BAJA sojourn decided that this was our shot at redemption. But we were sure our inexperience in manufacturing would again be our Achilles’ heel. So, we decided to do something that was never done before. We approached a nearby college, that had a demonstrated history of manufacturing cars for such competitions, with the proposal of forming a joint venture. But with nothing to offer them, our chances of success were slim. As luck would have it, this college was having trouble with their manufacturing facility and needed a new one. We on the other hand had plenty of space on our campus. So, a deal was struck, manufacturing space on our campus in exchange for spots for students from our college in the joint team. That year we not only cleared the pitching round but also became first team in the history of Indian motorsports to manufacture a carbon fiber monocoque chassis. Our car was showcased at Buddh International Circuit in Noida, which is India’s first and only F1 racetrack. We also managed to win the Best Engineering Design award that year. The joint team continues to successfully build cars and has spread its wing to now participate in competitions abroad as well. This is how I managed to overcome challenges and achieved my goal of building a race car.
