Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life.

‘आशावधिं को गत:’

‘There is no limit of aspirations, expectations and needs.’ – (idiom in Sanskrit)

From a humble cotton business based out of Pilani, Rajasthan, the Aditya Birla group has grown up to be a 44.3 billion $ (USD) business conglomerate in the World. Touching over 120,000 lives directly by employing them, it is a household name in over 42 countries.

Hailing from a joint family, watching my uncle work in the largest producers of primary Aluminium in Asia had me interested in the group for a long time. Its importance became quite relevant all over again when I arrived at XIMB to pursue my MBA. Within the first week, I understood that I was in desperate need for formal clothing for the various events that were being conducted on the campus.

From a life where I had my mother prepare lunches and pack them in Aluminium Freshwraps (owned by ABGL) the idea that I had to shop for myself, were giving me the jitters.

A quick check on google maps and a short Auto ride away, half my problems were solved when I entered the Pantaloons showroom nearby. The wide variety ranging from Peter England, Van Heusen, Louis Philippe, Linen Club and Allen Solly, were the saviours I had to count on. The seamless service and helpful attendants had me go in and out of the shop in no time. All in time to call my parents from my Vodafone-idea number, to tell them that my solo shopping spree was successful. I had not taken my wallet even for this exercise and the ABPB application came to my rescue during the payment process.

My best friend in school had recently started his business in construction materials dealership with Ultratech cement being the only kind of cement he dealt in. During a conversation, he had revealed that Ultratech being the largest cement manufacturer in India had a well-established brand-name that was infallible. The discussion ensues while his newly purchased 4-wheeler was being insured by Aditya Birla Capital.

It is really amazing to think that how an amalgamation of companies could affect one life in myriad ways. Each being a positive encounter and a stupendous experience. It is quite evident that ABG has been a big part in my life and will continue to be so as it leaves its competition aeons behind.

How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions in life so far.

Being from a joint family myself, values have been a part of me from a very tender age. The strongest of them being accommodating others and appreciating a wide range of viewpoints. As the American author, Stephen King had once said, “get busy living or get busy dying”, it is easy to get bogged down by life’s challenges but to overcome them is the real pursuit.

While holding various positions of responsibilities in school and college, or while working in my previous company as a marketer, I had been in situations wherein I had to make various decisions or take steps for the common good. Oftentimes in doing so, I have failed, however, each of these instances has taught me something valuable that has helped me later on.

In case of challenges, I have always banked on my key strengths to overcome them they are:

Interpersonal Skills – Having had the privilege of holding various positions of responsibility helped me hone my interpersonal skills. I have worked as a team member/ leader on various occasions and employ these skills whenever and wherever necessary.

Adaptability – Having worked in a Marketing role in my last company, adaptability is a key trait which I learnt from a very early stage. I adapt to any situation given to me and try to make the best out of it.

Diligence – A work-ex where targets and self-evaluation where the main criterion has been the touchstone for having diligence in any task delegated to me or I have taken up. I was the youngest member chosen for a BD team in my last company which taught me that dedication and hard work towards the given task can develop a person in various ways.

These qualities have helped me overcome challenges that I may have faced time and again and had has helped me re-invent, re-imagine and re-align myself.
