Life is determined by how we let obstacles shape us. Everyone has had challenges, at specific points, but very few are used to living a challenged life. My life hasn’t been easy, but certainly has given me the skills and perspectives I wouldn’t have gained otherwise. Having a place to call your hometown, was determined by how long I enjoyed it versus my length of stay.  Being the new kid in school had been a rattling experience, but one I grew into. My longest experience in a city was just 2 years, before shifting to a new one. It made me mature faster, more than I would have liked, resulting in most of my friends being adults.

My second challenge in life, came in college. I had a severe knee injury, which required surgery. This put me out of commission for a month and left me dependent on a walking stick for over a year. Being limited by your own body is a horrible feeling, especially at the prime of your youth. I ended up becoming obese (had put on 30 kgs) and looking like an old man at the age of 19. I tried making the best of it, by taking part in activities that wouldn’t be limited to physical performance. Once I graduated, it took me 2 years to lose the weight, and get back into a form, where I wasn’t restricted. A drastic change was needed, I had to be extra disciplined in my lifestyle and extra cautious. I have followed this till date and am probably the healthiest I ‘ve ever been.
The most recent hurdle of my life came in the form of disease. A rare form of conjunctivitis had infected my left eye, causing me to temporarily lose sight. Courtesy the fact that it was contagious, I had to be quarantined in my own home. Being left alone to your thoughts for weeks on end, with the least amount of human contact, is not healthy and certainly left a heavy impression. I was depressed and behaved in a desolate manner. It took a year of trying to live life, actively searching for meaning, for me to pull myself out of my own quicksand of melancholy.
Now listing out these challenges is not about playing the sympathy card. Its about showing, that no matter what happens, people can move on. Things will not stop you. They can’t hold you back. Its about saying, life isn’t easy, but it won’t stop me.
