As I sit in my seat wearing a Van Heusen business suit for the induction programme of International Management Institute, New Delhi I muse about how a multinational conglomerate has interwoven itself in my life through its products and has become an indispensable part of it.As I ponder over the topic the lunch hour wakes me up from my musings and the thought of veg rolls wrapped up in ‘Freshwrapp’ aluminium foil ,thanks to which the freshness of the rolls is retained, sitting in my bag waiting to be demolished sends me reeling towards the cafeteria.
ABG or Aditya Birla group has been a part of my life since childhood. However, the sweetest memory I associate it with comes from a recent event. Being a south Indian and no prior experience staying in the north of the country. The vibrant city of Delhi overwhelmed me.the culture, the language, the people were so different and dynamic. The slowly setting in home sickness did not help and my mom staying in Dakshina Kannada, my native where the connectivity of various mobile networks is still a problem, was a concern. As it turned out my concern was not necessary as the SIM used by my mother is the Vodafone Idea which has connected over 37000 villages nationally. The call went uninterrupted and my parent’s assurance and comfort helped me cope through.
A small SIM. A small conversation. A BIG impact on a man who is forever grateful for the same.
As I think about that I’m also scrolling through planet fashion online store for a formal shirt and a pair of trousers, guess I’ll go for Allen solly this time…
ABG also has been a silent guardian with BIRLA CARBON and HINDALCO industries and usage of the products in tyres, phone cover etc is something I had taken for granted. These small services or products accumulate to become a large part of my life, truly ABG is a big part of my life…
Challenges
“Challenges are what makes life interesting, overcoming them is what makes life meaningful”
-Joshua J Marine
Everyone in their life must go through trials that challenge them, it makes them get out of their comfort zone and which evolves them into being an improved version of themselves.to achieve your goals or ambitions, one must overcome the obstacles that appear before them. These trials forge you into becoming someone stronger mentally or physically.
I had various challenges in life that I faced that pushed me to become a better person than yesterday.my first obstacle came disguised as a physical problem. I was selected for international level karate championships representing my dojo but being in the ninth grade and in the heavy weight division, my stature scaling five feet looked like a toddler in front of my competitors. There was no time for me to plan or strategize for the match, hence had to adapt in the matches itself. After a round of barely dodging the incoming blows i relied upon my small stature to dodge their kicks by going under it and attacking their solar plexus. Becoming the runner up in the said event is still one of the proudest moments in my life. Turning my weakness into strength by changing the perspective by which we look at the problem was something I learnt that day.
Another challenge in the form of ‘pre-university’ presented itself before me. This university had no internet and the whole campus was one hundred and eighty acres big. Being a city boy, getting used to such an environment which had no internet, four 'bhajans' every day with strict discipline was a new concept for me. However, not only living there for two years to complete my PU but also becoming a ranker and the house captain for the team that won the house cup twice in a row was an experience I would never forget.
These are just some of the challenges that were faced by me during my lifetime and I’m embarking on another journey by going to a place far away from home to achieve what I deserve.
