ABG touches millions in the world. It is unlikely that you have never used a product, or traveled on a road or visited a site where ABG has not contributed in some way. Its presence in your life is massive. In at least 250 words or more, tell us why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life.

Research about ABG's brands and the kind of work they have done in India and the world since independence. 

  

Time has always been a tester. Especially in the Indian context, things have changed very drastically in the last 200 years. These couple of centuries have tested the concept of India, they have helped in the formation of the Indian identity. Enterprising individuals have been at the fore-fronts in this endeavour. They are the builders of the modern economy. Aditya Birla Group is one of these visionary entities the contributed to the best of its efforts in the past 162 years.

 

Aditya Birla Group currently operates in 35 countries with $44Bn in revenue. It does business in textiles, carbon black, cement, viscose staple fibres, fertilizers, insulators etc. ABG is run by a leadership that believes to be in top 3 in any business segment to exist in that segment. Its sheer size and presence across sectors enables ABG to touch the life of an average Indian customer in a BIG way.

 

There are more than 20 brands that an average Indian customer encounter on day to day basis that are from the ABG portfolio. Banking, Fashion, Cement, Retail are major sectors that are in the direct interface of the customer. Indirectly, many brands spanning across Metals, Carbon Black, Textiles, Plastic etc. influence the customers life indirectly.

 

Fashion has been one segment where ABG has a lot of presence with respect to the Indian psychological space is concerned. Brands like Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, Forever 21, Linen Club, Peter England, Planet Fashion, Ralph Lauren are brought to India by ABG. These are premium brands of international repute. These brands fulfil the fashion appetite of an average Indian customer.

 

ABGs contribution in Nation Building has been phenomenal and spans across 5 generations of its leadership. Infrastructure is one aspect of the nation building process that requires a symbiotic effort from both the government and private enterprise. ABG has been in the fore-front in the infrastructure development of the nation with its brands like UltraTech, Hindalco, DHIL, EMIL. UltraTech is the most prominent name among these. UltraTech cement has been involved in some of the most iconic infrastructure projects of India like Bandra-Worli Sea link, about 20 metro rail projects, the statue of unity to name a few.

 

Aditya Birla has also forayed in banking and financial services space with brands like Aditya Birla Capital, Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank, Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund etc. These companies offer premium financial services at affordable prices that suits an average Indian customer.

 

Thus we can see how ABG has set for itself a special place in the Indian customer mindset by offering products and services in various aspects of his life. Considering all these, the caption ‘BIG IN YOUR LIFE’ seems just as an understatement of the role ABG plays in the Indian context.

  

At the core of the ABGLP program are people who drive to make an impact, irrespective of what challenges they face. 

Tell us, in at least 250 words, how you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far.

At the core of the ABGLP program are the people who drive to make an impact. I have been a first-hand witness of this statement while I was interning at UltraTech Cements Limited. ABGLP gives the participants plethora of challenges and corresponding opportunities. I have interacted with ABG leaders (at UltraTech) who have joined ABG through ABGLP. It was an enriching experience to have worked with them during my internship program at UltraTech.

 

I have observed that these leaders are always motivated. UltraTech was undertaking several process improvement initiatives during the period to reduce its Logistics Cost. These initiatives required latest skills and updated perspective. It was very clear that ABGLP leaders were the most cut-out for these projects. Interaction with these leaders made me understand the importance of staying motivated, updated and the most important of all staying humble.

 

My ambition in life is to become an IAS Officer. I have extended my sincere efforts in that direction. The first challenge that I had to face was to choose in between working for an MNC and staying jobless in the streets of Old Rajender Nagar till I achieve my ambition. I chose to stay jobless which was a tough decision and consumed me mentally.

 

My first attempt was very rewarding, my effort and smart work helped me reach interview. But I missed the cut-off for the final list. Encouraged by my previous performance I set out to attempt the exam one last time. However, the second time I could not clear prelims. This devastated me and my family, I was forced to join a job and eventually an MBA for financial reasons. Currently, achieving my ambition has itself been a challenge for me. However, I constantly check if I still have it in me. I am yet to overcome this challenge in achieving my ambition.
