After completing school, I had this urge to come out of the comfort of my home and learn to become independent. As I shifted from Kolkata in Eastern India to Bengaluru in Southern India, I noticed considerable change in the culture, language, eating habits and lifestyle of people around me. As this was my first stint away from the luxuries of my home, with time and considerable struggle, I adapted to this change and tried my best to get involved in this new community. The Indian diversity, in itself, is a great teacher and makes us realize that though we all are one, we have our own unique ways of living.
While pursuing Engineering, Microprocessors and Electronic Circuits were two subjects which I disliked the most – mainly because I could not understand them no matter how much I tried. It is often said that when we stay away from our families, it is our friends around us who become our family. It was this family which helped and guided me whenever I felt lost and brought clarity in my views.
As I was on the verge of starting my corporate life, I had 2 job offers – first being that of an Application Development Analyst at one of the top MNC’s of the world and second being that of a Business Development Analyst at one of India’s leading online education start-up. I was in a fix as the former role was related to my academic profile while the latter was something completely new for me but the pay offered was twice. Eventually, I settled with the first offer as I wanted to do justice to my Engineering degree and practically use my classroom knowledge to handle real-world problems.
All my life decisions brought in immense understanding and self-realization in my persona. I am a better individual today because I chose to go beyond all my comfort zones and life’s challenges.
I still strive for the same; will fail more. And get back up stronger each time!
How ABG Has Had An Impact On My Life
Aditya Birla Group, an organization whose history goes back till the 19th century, started its venture by trading in cotton. Based on the visionary and principles of the Group's founding father, Mr. Ghanshyam Das Birla, ABG is now an Indian Multinational Conglomerate operating in 35 countries with an employee strength of 1, 20,000+ worldwide.
One of the firms of ABG, with which I relate the most personally, is ‘Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail Ltd’. As a youth, most of my favorite clothing brands like Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, Van Heusen, Peter England and People, are in-house brands of the group's firm Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail Ltd. Pantaloons, a multi brand fashion retail chain, majority stake of which is owned by ABG, has been a regular shopping destination not only for me but my family as well. It spans the fashion spectrum from formals to semi-formals and casuals; and from luxury apparel to fast fashion and value fashion. Powered by nine state-of-the-art production and design facilities, all fed by an indigenous and global supply chain, ABG‘s retail segment has created a large impact in this space.
More Supermarkets was my destination for all household needs during my graduation days at Bangalore. Operating both online and offline, getting groceries and other household goods was neither time-consuming nor a hectic task. My first experience of online grocery shopping was with Morestore.com which offers quality products at affordable costs and also delivers the order at your doorstep within 24 hours of placing the order.
The one thing, which I could not help but notice, that is common between the above mentioned two segments of ABG is their customer-centric business strategy. From providing discounts to their clients to receiving and evaluating their feedback each time they shop, the sole aim of ABG has always been customer satisfaction. They work with utmost commitment and value for their customers and simultaneously take care of society via their sustainable development goals and CSR policies.
It redefines ‘impact’ in the truest sense.
The ABGLP builds versatile, industry-ready next-generation leaders through their structured leadership programs. The world is full of opportunities and each one is associated with one or more challenges of its own.
