Well it just so happened just like every MBA finance student I wanted to do an internship in a core finance domain and as soon our campus placement started I applied for Tata Capital .That was the first finance company which had come to our campus and since they offer PPO everyone including myself wanted to get selected .So first round happened .It was normal GD round and they asked us to talk about the impact of farmer's loan waiver on the Indian economy .As I was aware about the topic I could talk well on it and I got through the first round .Second round was PI where they asked me about my work experience and why Tata Group and they asked what you want to do five years down the line .I answered all their questions properly .But when they asked whether you will be okay doing sales I said no and so it happened that I got rejected from this opportunity .My take away was when you are looking for a particular company you should not really look at the profile in short term.Sometimes interviewers ask such questions just to see how flexible you are at work .
The second one was J Marathon Services Advisory Ltd.They had come for core finance role and my interview went very well.Even this time they asked me whether you can do sales and this time I said yes.
Well the internship experience was not great but good in terms of learning .They taught us about Indian Markets and currency markets .They explained us how to do fundamental analysis and technical analysis .We were given dummy account for some days where we traded using virtual money .My takeaway was I learned to use different charts and interpretation of the same. The second part of internship was sales .We had given task to sale their educational videos .I think it was the most difficult thing cause it was paid one and since many videos are already available online so people were not really ready to buy those. That was something which I found very challenging .Like in Marketing we are taught many things but at times nothing works and you really have to use your own creativity to make things work.
The mentor which was allocated to us was very young and enthusiastic .Though his subject knowledge was very limited he had great practical knowledge.
One advise which I would like to pass on is first just have open mind to whatever comes .People see whether you have appetite to learn knew things and honestly pays always .So try to be humble and maintain good relations with everyone which can help you beyond those two months .I met people from different colleges and parts of India and everyone had something unique in them .
