Aditya Birla Group, through its diverse portfolio and range of companies, has impacted my life at various touchpoints. It has been a companion and assisted me via its multiple range of products and services. Having spent my four years of B.Tech. in Kolkata and belonging to a lower middle-class family, Pantaloons was a one-stop destination to all my shopping needs. Pantaloons, along with its discount membership offers, was all a small-town boy looked forward to whenever I wanted to shop. For an engineer, the most sought-after event is placements. In pursuit of the best formals for my dream interview, I knocked on the stores of Van Heusen and Peter England for the best formals. My trust in the formals of ABG portfolio brands hasn’t faltered thereafter. Even during my work life of three years followed my life at MDI Gurgaon, I continue to repeatedly purchase these formals. In fact, I can’t stop referring and marketing these brands to my friends and colleagues.
As I started receiving salary and was ingrained in the corporate life, the buzz of financial planning struck me. Equity markets were something I looked forward to as investment opportunities. While researching about various stocks, I came across Aditya Birla Capital. This is when I decided to buy 50 shares of ABC as a long-term value investor because I saw potential in the business of the company. Thus, I would like to believe that I too was one among the million whose life was touched and impacted by ABG and continues to do so each and every day.
The leadership displayed by Kumar Mangalam Birla in shaping Aditya Birla group has been an inspiration for me. Leadership comes from accountability and volunteering to take up challenges. This instance took place while I was working at Fluor Daniel India Private Limited. After the training period of two months, I was assigned to work as Static Engineer for 28 Pressure Vessel in $ 2.1 billion PEMEX Tula project, Mexico. Six months into the project, the Responsible Engineer of the package left for an Onsight assignment to Kuwait. This is when a great opportunity presented itself to me. Impressed by my sincerity and work ethics, project’s Lead Engineer vouched for me and instead of bringing in a new senior engineer to fill in, he appointed me as the Responsible Engineer for the Pressure Vessels package. Being a Responsible engineer made me in charge of the entire life cycle of the 28 vessels in the package. It included the entire engineering, design, procurement, fabrication and erection at site of these pressure vessels. I was assisted by two colleagues, one of them being senior to me. I had to liaison between Client and the six vendors through technical queries, mails, teleconferencing and Videoconferencing meetings. We took the assistance of weekly plans, monthly schedules to plan our work, distribute it in my team and followed techniques to minimize rework, thus meeting schedules. During this time, I attended various meetings with the project management and lead engineer. I also reported project progress, the workforce and allotted project hours and finally, PF ratio. These factors are crucial for cost competency and pivotal for future project allocation. This experience instilled confidence in me and I opted to handle anew commodity, i.e. Heat Exchangers in KIPIC project.
