Aditya Birla Group is a multinational conglomerate having presences in various sectors and can affects a person’s life in various ways. There have been various instances where it has affected my life. Two of the most impactful instances I would like to highlight are:
I have been fortunate to be a part of Idea Cellular Limited (Now Vodafone Idea Limited)– Aditya Birla Group company for a short stint as summer intern during my graduation in Electronics & Communication Engineering. I have completed my one-month internship in 2016 at Ahmedabad office. I had learnt about the practical aspects in telecommunication sector. It was a great learning opportunity where I got to understand and see various voice and data Key parameter indicators (KPI) and contribute to the organization in providing optimized solution for reducing the call drops. I loved the organization culture and the importance given to their core values. I could connect with the organization and felt a part of it.
Allen Solly and Annabelle by Pantaloons are the two brands of Aditya Birla Group which play a significant role in my life. When I started my corporate career after graduation, I was looking for affordable women formalwear, it was then that I got acquainted with Annabelle. I loved the collection and have now become a loyal customer of this brand over the years. It provides huge variety in all formal and semi-formal attire for women. Also, when I decided to pursue MBA, I was searching for Business suit as I always imagined myself wearing one. I wanted it to be very comfortable and easy to carry. I visited Allen Solly store and got a suit which exactly met my expectations. It is one of my favourite brands.
How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?
You face a lot of challenges in life as they are part & parcel of it. However, it is very important how you deal with it. One challenge that I faced during the time I was working for an organization was to meet the client’s expectations and save the organizations’ reputation. Due to unavoidable circumstances, we could not meet the delivery timelines committed to an important client. The shipment was supposed to come from United Kingdom but due to some technical glitches we could not place the order well in time. With advent of Christmas holidays from mid- December, the entire UK office was closed. We tried everything to get the delivery as early as possible but we failed. We were more than 3 weeks late from the committed delivery time. The customs clearance department also took greater than usual time due to holiday’s season. Our business relationship got tainted and the client suffered monetary loss due to project’s delayed start. Since it was my client, I felt very bad that I couldn’t stand on my promise and it affected both my personal and organizations’ reputation. I then decided to ask the management to arrange a spare hardware device with extra security and safety to be delivered at client’s place to start with their project testing. I was able to convince my team to service the hardware and provide 24x7 offline (on-call) support to the client’s project team to help them recover the loss and get on the schedule as quickly as possible. I learnt that when you are the in-charge, you should continuously take updates from both your internal and external stakeholders. In future, if I would come across a similar problem, I would be prepared well in advance to avoid such end moment commitments also I would keep backup ready.
