Hi everyone! I’m Ayush Gagneja, an MBA student in my first year at NMIMS Mumbai. A 97.23 percentile scorer in CAT with 99.21 in Quants. With CAT 2024 just around the corner, I can completely relate to the whirlwind of emotions you might be feeling—anxiety, panic, nervousness, and maybe even a pinch of self-doubt. Just last year, I was exactly where you are now, grappling with the same uncertainties about how to make the most of this crucial last week. Today, I want to share some last-minute tips and strategies that helped me sail through this phase and can surely help you approach your exam with confidence and clarity.

1. Solidify Your Strengths—Don’t Chase New Topics

At this stage, the key is to focus on areas where you are already confident. This isn’t the time to dive into uncharted territory. Instead, double down on your strongholds and aim to maximize your score in those areas. CAT rewards strategy as much as knowledge—play to your strengths.

 2. Revise Past Mocks Religiously

Your past mock tests are a goldmine of insights. Go through each one methodically—review not just what went wrong but also what went right. Analyze your time allocation, error patterns, and areas of strength and weakness. This retrospective approach can sharpen your test-taking strategy and ensure you avoid repeating the same mistakes on D-day.

3. Practice Under Exam-Like Conditions

By now, you should aim to simulate exam-like scenarios while practicing. Take mock tests during your actual CAT slot time to condition your mind for peak performance. Mimic the environment as closely as possible—sit at a desk, eliminate distractions, and adhere to the time constraints. This will not only boost your stamina but also calm your nerves about the unknown.

4. Time Management Is Key

CAT is as much about smart time allocation as it is about problem-solving. Divide your time judiciously across sections and ensure you attempt enough questions to clear the sectional cut-offs. Don’t get stuck on any single question—move on and come back later if time permits.

 5. Revisit Key Formulas and Concepts

Create a compact cheat sheet of all essential formulas, shortcuts, and strategies for Quantitative Ability and Logical Reasoning. Spend some time every day reviewing this. Keeping these fresh in your memory can save precious seconds during the exam.

6. Work-Life Balance for Professionals

For those balancing work and CAT prep, this week calls for some thoughtful planning. Consider taking a day or two off to focus on revision and rest. Use this time strategically—review mocks, fine-tune your strategy, and ensure you’re mentally prepared for the big day. Remember, a well-rested mind performs far better than a fatigued one.

7. Engage in Activities That Keep You Calm

Stress can cloud even the sharpest minds, so it's crucial to indulge in activities that help you unwind. Personally, I found solace in cooking during my CAT preparation days. Preparing my meals not only gave me a creative outlet but also served as a productive distraction from exam pressure. Whether it’s cooking, exercising, meditating, or even a quick stroll outside, these activities can help rejuvenate your mind.

8. Take Care of Your Health

Your mind performs at its best when your body is healthy. Prioritize sleep, eat balanced meals, and stay hydrated. Avoid overexertion—fatigue can derail even the most well-prepared candidate.

9. Plan Exam Day Logistics

Reduce exam-day stress by preparing in advance. Visit your test center beforehand, plan your commute, and keep all necessary documents ready. This will allow you to focus solely on the test, without worrying about logistical hiccups.

10. Trust Your Preparation

The most important thing is to believe in yourself. Remember, you’ve put in months of effort, and that effort won’t go to waste. CAT is just one step in your journey—your determination and mindset matter far more in the long run.

A Final Word of Encouragement

As you step into this final stretch, remember that CAT is not just a test of aptitude but also of composure and resilience. Stay calm, stay positive, and trust the process. No matter how things unfold, this is just one milestone in a much larger journey.

To all my fellow aspirants—embrace the journey, cherish the learning, and don’t let the fear of the unknown overshadow your efforts. And if you feel overwhelmed, remind yourself that you’ve come this far, and that’s already an achievement worth celebrating.

From one aspirant to another, I wish you the very best. Keep your head held high and give it your all. See you on the other side of success! ?
