I got the opportunity of interning with Yes Bank as a Liability Product Manager intern from the summer placement drive, 2020, in my institute. The first milestone of being a part of the Yes Bank family was getting shortlisted on the 25th of October 2020. Why I remember the date so vividly, you ask? That's because that marked the auspicious day of Dushherra! Being a true Bong in my heart, I was indeed a bit morose about the pandemic taking over the pomp and grandeur of festivities that revolves around the five days of the Durga Puja. But as they say, "All's well that ends well!", the shortlist itself seemed like a gift of Ma Durga on her departure! *winks*
Having worked in an IT firm for 29 months and a connoisseur of technology, I had a keen interest in the FinTech industry that sailed me through with ease through the interview the next day. Needless to mention that the interview panel was very amicable indeed and seemed pretty impressed by my performance. Though I was overt about my perceived good performance in the interview when being asked by my peers, deep down in my heart I was not immune from meandering thoughts about the same.
To distract myself, I started devouring "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak, and time fled by! My reading was interrupted only by the melodious Senorita song (well that is what my ringtone used to be in those days) and I could see an unknown number flashing. As you could have guessed by now, yes, indeed that was the momentous call from the Placement Committee when I learned about me getting selected for the internship in Yes Bank. With an inordinate amount of accomplishment and satisfaction, coupled with a strong sense of gratitude towards all my peers, seniors, and professors, and parents, who had helped me with my preparations, that night, I slept like a log!
On joining the company as an intern, how has your onboarding experience been like?
The virtual onboarding was very smooth and timely, with neatly spaced sessions from the top leaders of the YES BANK family. I won't do justice if I don't specially mention how Sundaram sir of the HCM department had coordinated and engaged all the interns well before time for a seamless onboarding process. The pep talks from the industry leaders motivated all the interns immensely.
I have to mention one such motivating session of Pulkit sir, who is the leader of the Head Talent Academy of YES BANK, wherewith his "filmy andaaz" and anecdotal references he was able to engage the crowd with rapt attention. He went on to narrate the story of a little boy in dilemma, who wanted to obliterate the fan following of a sagacious scholar who claimed absolute knowledge, and in a bid to do so, he asked the scholar to prove the worth of his knowledge by revealing if the sparrow that he was holding within his fist was dead or alive. Introspecting, the scholar understood, that either answer of "dead" or "alive" would be wrong, as depending on his answer the boy will either let the bird fly away or strangulate it to death within his fist, respectively, just to portray the scholar as foolishly. What the scholar said was, "It all depends on you!"
"It indeed depends on you people", Pulkit sir went on to explain, "what you do with two months of your internship!" How we can add the maximum amount of value from the internship, through the learnings from our mentors and through that of self-learning, was one of the key takeaways from his session. The induction day was true to be adulated!
