It was a 7th of August, 2017. I was all prepared for my first day at my first job. I was a newbie in the corporate world, an engineering student graduated a week ago. Despite this there was burning desire to understand the intricacies of the business world. The level of anxiousness could be determined from the mere fact that I woke up (hardly slept last night) at the sound of the alarm at 6.30 AM without snoozing the alarm, almost 90 minutes before the time I was to be picked up by the office cab. It was quite different from my usual morning routines where I was used to wake up with the least possible time to get ready (read 15 minutes). I took my breakfast, and donned on the only white shirt I had, bought a couple of days before, from the nearest Pantaloons. The upper crest logo of Louis Phillipe on the white shirt looked amazing, though the logo iterates the motto of ‘Rise above the rest’, I would be lying if I say I was full on confidence. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach, anxious and excited were the two words to describe my situation.
At 8 AM sharp, the driver called me to pick me up on the Idea number I had registered with my company. On reaching my company, I was greeted at the reception. As the day progressed, the anxiousness faded away and the curiosity to learn took control. I was driven to make an impact in the corporate world, coming from an engineering background into the business consultancy domain was sure an upheaval task but I managed and towards the end of the day I was driven by the “Rise above the rest” theme of Louis Phillipe. During my tenure at the firm, there were numerous occasions where I had to adapt to the situations and make myself open to new ideas or methodology. In the words of Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla himself, “Failure is not fatal. Failure is inevitable. If you don’t fail, It perhaps means you aren’t taking enough risks”. So during the 2 years at my first job, I did take my fair share of risk. It just made me realise that being new to something is not the problem, it’s the tunnel vision, the mindset of not adapting is what harms the most. Thankfully, I didn’t fail at failing or getting out of my comfort zone.
Now, being an MBA student at one the premier business schools of the country, I am again looking to take risks which would make me aware about my own inadequacies. As the Aditya Birla’s Ultratech cement motto clearly states “Brighter thinking, better learning”, I am looking forward to the two years of exploring those avenues which make me look beyond the normal and take me out of my comfort zone. These two years I am not just looking to develop myself as a professional but also to make myself an improved human being. The desire to do good for the society by making a difference is also one of the parallels I can draw from the Aditya Birla Group. Aditya Birla Group has been making an impact in millions of people across the globe, day in day out. It is almost impossible to get a single day by without coming in contact with the Aditya Birla Group. They are not just into the business of making money, the group means much more than that. They are in the business of making a difference, bringing change – truest form of change masters in the corporate world.
