The Art of Dressing Well

Getting into an engineering college is easy because you need to score good marks and you will get the college which is not the case for an MBA college. It was the time when all aspirants were preparing for interview calls that they received from their respective b-schools. I was also one of them.

I was told by my seniors who has already been to MBA college that the real effort starts and ends with interview. So, I started preparing for the interview as soon as I got interview calls as I don’t believe in letting the opportunity to slip by.  I knew from my prior experience that when you walk into the interview room, whatever first impression of yours is perceived by the panellists, tells a lot about your attitude and personality. And to make that impression better, you need to look confident and it comes when you are dressed in a properly yet decent manner.

So, I asked my father about what to wear on the interview day. He told me, “Son, let’s go for shopping. You need to buy a suit.” It was going to be my first suit.  And frankly speaking, I don’t like to do shopping a lot, but, it was important. I bought a Z-black Van Heusen suit for the D-Day.

When I walked through the interview door for CAP interview, I was confident because I knew that now, nothing could go wrong provided that I was well dressed and groomed. And here I am, in IIM Raipur with all my dreams which soon will be the reality. I still have that suit and I am thankful that I chose to wear suit in the interview process. As it is rightly said by Herbert Harold Vreeland, “Clothes don’t make a man, but clothes have got many a man a good job.”

Challenging the Challenges

Challenges/obstacles and failure in life go hand in hand. All you need is to accept the challenge and face it. If you succeed, well & good, but, if you fail, you will gain experience which will tell you how to approach and what’s the next step you need to take. Nothing should dissuade you to accept challenges if you want to grow in life. The only thing to remember while facing any difficulties that you need to push harder every time you fall, and you need to be persistent, enthusiastic and optimistic about whatever goals have been set.

This is my story when I was in my engineering college at my last semester doing my final project. We took a project of “Designing and fabricating a fixture for circumferential welding”. It was the project that was recognised as one of the good & toughest projects of our batch. Our Head of the Department asked us on our first interaction of project if we would be able to complete the project before the semester ends. He also mentioned that it would not be an easy task to fabricate fixture without dedication. I assured him that my team of 3 would complete it successfully before the final presentation.

SO, with all our hopes and motivation boosted high, we started working on the project. There were many difficulties that we faced during the time of project like conflicts in the group, problems with designs etc. But, as the leader of the team, I didn’t loose hope. I stuck to my plan and schedule along with resolving all the problems and the final day for presentation came.

After the presentation was over, my HOD gave us a standing ovation and said, “I never doubted you guys. It was all to push you to work harder.” And that project is still there in BIT Mesra’s Production Department along with other unique and successful projects.
