My MDI Interview was scheduled on 7th March 2019 at 1 P.M. Nervousness and restlessness along with pinch of happiness were the emotions I was experiencing. Having donned my Peter England Suit, I was feeling confident. After the interview, I was content with myself as I knew I was able to make myself clear and I could not have answered any question more appropriately. With the benefit of hindsight, I could surely say that I did ace the interview. After successfully making it to one of the best B-Schools in the country, I surely remember how smart I was feeling in that Peter England Suit. The Aditya Birla Group has always had an impact on my life. From living in a house made of Ultratech cement, to using their Vodafone-Idea network to connect with my family when I’m not living in that home, From wearing Pantaloons apparel when hanging out to using the Idea Payments Bank to dutch the bill, the ABG Group has quietly become a part of my life.
The ABG Group has also been a source of motivation in my life. Behind these huge numbers, there are a lot of sacrifices, compromises and hard-will. There have been ups and downs but becoming a $44.3bn revenue conglomerate is something extraordinary. Having the path alone is also one thing which I have learnt from the ABG Group, which has at time, trusted its decisions without paying heed to the “experts’. To reach the upper crest of the corporate world, toughening up is a necessity.
One of the things I did to push my boundaries was to work in a field I didn’t have a hang of. So, I did an internship in the field of Logistics and Supply Chain Management. During this internship, I learnt a lot, made some mistakes but came back stronger. Taking ownership was the one thing I was trained to inculcate. At that time, we were starting a new warehouse for another vertical, but my supervisor had to leave due to some reason and the onus of managing the vertical fell on my shoulders. This was the time where I was able to prove my worth to my colleagues and, to myself. One of the things that helped me a lot was taking regular feedback. Every day, you have to evolve to proceed further.
Another great challenge I have faced has been getting a direction in my life. After I could not get into a good B-School in 2018, I was extremely demotivated as I had worked hard to pursue an MBA from a premier institute. To get motivation, I started reading again. I could say reading ‘Grameen Bank’ gave me an altogether different perspective. As a believer in capitalism, I always believed in the positive power of capital and reading this book buttressed my conviction. It gave me a dream to achieve. No-one should remain poor due to lack of capital.
Just like the ABG Group has been big in my life, I also want to impact others’ life and build their lives beautiful.
