I spent my last 2 months as a marketing intern at Hinduja Group in Mumbai and I have to tell you, these have been the best two months for me in a while. Of course, time spent in college has been brilliant, but the moment you step in the real business world where actual work happens and your actions can become liabilities involving huge sums of money in no time, has a different thrill altogether. I was working with the media vertical of Hinduja Group which deals with digital content distribution.

My project involved finding a new strategy to revamp the marketing operations which involved primary research and data analysis through mapping the consumer journey and proposing both long term as well as a short term marketing plan.

The reason I chose Hinduja is that it is one of the biggest business conglomerates in the world having been founded more than 100 years ago and having a presence in nearly all major business verticals including foundries, import-export, trading, motor vehicles, banking, call centres, healthcare, etc.

Learning is what was my main motivation at work. The skills that I was able to work upon were my qualitative and segmentation analysis, communication journey research and communication strategy designing and also value proposition and competitor analysis.

It's supposed that if you have a good mentor then your internship is taken care of. I was lucky enough that I got the best mentor possible who not only guided me at every bend but also gave me complete independence to learn by making mistakes. Even though he was sceptical, I was given complete support for implementing the plan and strategy which I formulated. And though it was costing the company a lot more than required, it was a huge success and now it's part of the company’s daily operations. Also, there were always regular feedback and review sessions which provided very constructive inputs in the analysis and helped me in formalizing the actual strategy and plan.

Some of the things about my internship which I will not easily forget were the monthly town halls which were a joy to attend, lots of food, birthday celebrations, fun, and team games made it every worth to attend.

Also, I will never forget the times when I, along with my mentor, organized training sessions for the operations team and played Kahoot quizzes which everybody enjoyed and it was just fun.

We also had regular team outings, one of them was when all the interns along with the senior leaders went to a five-star hotel restaurant, where we had a lavish spread of buffet and an uncountable amount of varieties. We tried almost everything and were stuffed to the brim. It was such a joy.

The other best part of my internship was the city Mumbai, which I just fell in love with, I had friends already in Mumbai, so it was not that difficult looking for a place to stay. We could explore all different parts of the city and be not bored a single day.

It would be widely accepted if I say, ‘Mumbai: The city that never disappoints’.  But leaving the city gets difficult when you had such an amazing time.
