Aditya Birla Group, which started from an individual in Rajasthan has grown into a multinational conglomerate company. From manufacturing Carbon Black, Cement to having strong roots in the fashion, finance and telecom industry, Aditya Birla Group has covered most of the business sectors. Post-merger, Vodafone Idea has become the largest telecom operator in India. Aditya Birla Capital is among the top fund managers in India. The group is also engaged in philanthropic work through Birla Foundation. For me, Aditya Birla Group has made an impact in a personal way, which in turn helped me to build up professionally. It was the time for my MBA Interview for Vgsom, IIT Kharagpur. I had to buy my first suit, for which I had no clue. After looking up on the internet, and talking with friends, I decided on three brands: Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, and Peter England. Coincidently, all three brands belonged to Aditya Birla Group! I went directly to the retail outlets of the three. After looking at every corner of the stores and trying every type of suits, I finalized a suit from Peter England sub-brand 'Peter England Elite'. The main credit goes to the shop assistant for helping out in the decision. The suit with its quality fabric and perfect fitting boosted my confidence. I gave the interview in the suit with the new confidence in me and today I am representing Vgsom at a national level event.
In this 21st Century, some say that X skill is the most important one. Some say that Y skill is more important. According to me, the skill of 'Learnability' is the most crucial one. I experienced this while working in my previous organization. After starting my journey in a support team, I managed to shift to the development team by learning the required skill. As the world is moving more towards the mobile-first design, many businesses are implementing cloud-based mobile applications. Once, our project got a new requirement to use the new emerging SAP Fiori Technology, to build a mobile solution for the existing manual activities. But there were no trained professionals in that particular skill in our project. I took up the initiative to drive the solution and learned all the aspects of SAP Fiori by myself in a short duration with the help of SAP blogs and forums. There were many challenges as this was the first time, I was working on this technology and there was no technical guidance from anyone. But I learned a lot during this period. As someone has said, "If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you". And I changed to a better person than before. The solution was delivered well within the expected time. Later, I started taking sessions for other people in my organization. For the contribution made by me, I was recognized as one of the high performing members in my company with the award of 'Techstar 2019'.
