Aditya Birla Group, the Indian Multinational giant touches our lives in a multitude of ways. Be it a Freshwrapp which protects our chapatis or UltraTech cement that we build our houses with, we are surrounded by brands and products offered by ABG and they are an essential part of our lives.
The business empire was started by a small cotton trader, Shiv Narayan Birla back in the 1860s. Now, the Birla Group has transformed into multiple companies located in over 35 countries and together has more employees than multinational companies like Apple, Johnson and Johnson.
With a 162-year-old legacy, a revenue of 44.3 billion USD and over 120,000 employees, ABG caters to all market segments and provides an end to end ecosystem for its customers. Aditya Birla Group is a key player in the apparel industry with iconic in-house brands such as Louis Phillipe, Peter England, Allen Solly, Van Heusen and People. Coming to other sectors like Telecom, ABG is leading the market with Vodafone Idea with the largest user base in India.
Birla family has not only founded legendary companies, but have also built various institutions and landmarks that include, Libraries, Planetariums, Universities, Technology and Science institutes, Research institutes, Textile institutes, and Over 15 temples that include Delhi's landmark Laxminarayan Temple. The group operates 20 hospitals and conducts 5,000 free medical camps every year in rural India. They also run over 56 schools and provides free education to over 20,000 children every year. To end it all, I can only say that from a rustic house in a small town of Rajasthan the Birla Group has certainly created a massive Business Empire.
Although perspectives on education are changing in India, especially with regards to the Girl Child, we still live in a society which is not considered to be safe for women. One event which was the most significant in shaping my career was when after my schooling I secured admission in two of the most prestigious colleges in India i.e. NIT Raipur and Delhi Technological University. With one being just a kilometre away from home in Raipur and the other in a different city altogether, it was not easy for my family to let me leave the secure surroundings of my house.
I decided to approach this situation by explaining how this decision could prove beneficial for my career and provide me with not only the knowledge of Engineering but also how living in a hostel would teach me basic survival skills, money management and handling people from diverse cultures, lessons that I would carry all my life.
This decision not only changed their perspective towards me and my career but also paved the way for my younger sister. And today it is my parents' support that keeps me motivated to work even harder. This experience taught me that anything can be achieved with conviction and passion
