It is said that "Life throws challenges at you that will help you become a better version of yourselves." What isn't properly explained is that this change can only be observed in the hindsight. Like a mountaineer who can appreciate the magnitude of his climb once he has safely reached the basecamp on return, overcoming a challenge can only be realized when you look at it in the rearview mirror of your journey of life. This is a story about how I overcame self-doubt, low self-confidence, and other factors to join the college of my dreams - RV College of Engineering.
It all started in the year 2010, when as a starry-eyed teenager, I, like all other students who were about to complete 10th Standard, dreamt of ending up in an IIT. To this end, I had enrolled in a coaching center which would help me realize my dreams.
Over the next 18 months, instead of progressing through the enormous of amount syllabus and being confident of the exams, I had slid down the opposite end of the spectrum, with no self-confidence and severe self-doubt about whether or not I would pass my 12th boards. It was in this crossroads of life that I had to make some hard decisions and overcome the greatest challenge of my young life, my own self. Some say, "Those who conquer their mind, can conquer anything". Over the next few months, I gradually came out of this pit of self-despair and achieve my ambitions of becoming an engineer.
The first step of overcoming my own lack of self-confidence was to open up to my parents. this was very crucial as my parents became my backbone for the next few months. The next step was to objectively evaluate what were my options for pursuing my choice of degree. It was then that I decided that IIT was not my cup of tea and this decision lifted a huge burden off of me. With the path clear now to start working on my fundamentals, I inculcated discipline and hard work into my behavior and changed my mindset about my own capabilities and what I would be able to do. Over the next few months, I slowly regained my self-confidence and banished my self doubts out of my mind as I performed to the fullest of my abilities. This confidence carried over competitive exams and I was able to get admission into the best engineering college in my state- RV College of Engineering.
This is a story of how I banished my Demons and triumphed the biggest challenge of life so far to achieve my dreams.
