The Aditya Birla product that is big and has made an impact in my life is Ultra Tech Cement. During my summer vacation at my grandfather's house in Patna, an NGO was collecting money to build a shelter house for orphans. Even my grandfather paid a good amount for this. As the construction site was near to my house, I visited it regularly. This is where I saw the usage of Ultra Tech Cement which the NGO had got it for free for this noble work.
This inspired me to contribute towards the construction. Hence I started regularly going to the construction site and helping the local workers in their work. There I interacted with the orphans. This was also the first time when I realised the pain and suffering that the orphans have to face in their day to day life. It made me socially aware and it changed my view in life. I realised that the issue we face in our life like traffic jams, eating food not of your choice, getting up for school etc. are nothing when compared to the issue that they face. I started appreciating the things around me and thanked god. Even now when I go back to Patna, I see the orphan house still in good condition with children enjoying and playing with others and at the same time studying for their bright future.
This incident also inspired me to work towards the development and upliftment of the weaker sections of the society. Hence I aspire to use my knowledge and experience learnt in the B school as well as my professional career to work for an inclusive development in the society.
During my UPSC exam preparation, I read about the various social issues that affected our country. Here the issue that really stuck me was the pity state of education especially in the government school. As these students are not getting a good education, they won’t get a good job and hence will not earn enough to come out of the vicious cycle of poverty. So I decided to help the children of my society’s maid, cleaners, guard and other underprivileged children in my society who were appearing for the Board Exams. But the plan faced some major challenges such as that I alone was not able to give enough time to all the student and also we needed a big place for the classroom. In order to overcome this challenge, I decided to put up a poster on the society’s notice board asking people to volunteer. To my surprise I got large number of response. For the issue of space for classroom, after much discussion I was able to convince the nearby temple management authority to give us their langar space till the board exams.
So I along with 4 volunteers started taking classes for underprivileged students in the temple area. But this was just the beginning of big task as during my interaction I found that these students lacked the fundamental knowledge about the subject. But I did not give up and started taking extra classes to cover up the topic. Even the students put their extra effort as they knew that education is the only key to escape poverty and live a decent life. Finally, with all these efforts they gave their board exams. And with god’s blessing all of them passed with good grades.
When I heard about this, I was very happy and for the first time I had made a change in the society. This is how I felt I made a small impact in the life of underprivileged children and their families
