If you tie a baby elephant with a chain to a tree, he will never know and acknowledge the kind of power he has. Similarly, if there are no challenges in your life you will never understand your true potential and your learning will stop. Being from a state which has very less opportunities for studies and employment(Bihar) I always had to move to different places for education and jobs from a very early age (9 years). I have stayed in Patna, Deoghar, Delhi, Jammu and Mumbai. Every new place had a different challenge, for example when I came to Delhi, culture was totally different from what I had seen before, I was mocked because of my tone of speaking and I hardly knew anyone there. Technologies and environment was something I had not witnessed before. I always had a fear that I would do something wrong and everyone would make fun of me. To overcome this, I started creating a name for myself in school so that I could make friends and then slowly learn things from them. I was good with maths so I started helping students in class who were weak in maths and made friends in the process. Slowly and steadily life got good and I had best days of my short lived life in Delhi.
When I moved to Mumbai as a quant faculty at IMS learning Resources Pvt Ltd I faced challenge of settling in new city but there was a challenge that was very unique there I had to take 2 hours class in English. Having spent 10 years in Delhi I grew among people where general tongue was Haryanvi, Punjabi and Hindi. English as a language for me was something that I used only in professional talk, I never had spoken continuous 2 hr in English that to in a class so that they can understand. There were I was laughed at by students because of some mistakes but I kept trying. I started speaking in front of mirror, I used to mute volume of tv while watching cricket match and used to do commentary myself to develop a habit of continuous speaking and my effort paid well when I received a rating of 3.78 out of 4 from the feedback taken from students.
Another different kind of challenge that I faced was when I was in Jammu. I was there as a maths and had to teach students of Kashmir who used to come down in winters for the preparation for IITJEE. The challenge was the radical thought of students and their hatred towards India. Whenever I used to go into class there were writings on white board which said we want freedom. On republic day students had written it is black Friday for us. It was very difficult situation seeing all this where students were afraid to go out to different part of country where they felt they would be beaten up .In order to remove there misconception I started talking to them and telling them about benefits of going to good places for education and listen there part of story and to teach them to remove hatred and focus on their carrier. So, it is important to learn from challenges and always try to make yourself a better person.
