PART - B

I had been a student of a below average Hindi medium school till class 5 and a student of Municipality school for two more years till class 7 due to poor financial background of my family back then. I always bagged first position in every class till class 7 in those schools. All those good grades, positions in class went up to my head. I turned into a proud little girl who was over confident of her academic achievements and presumed intelligence, failing to realize that she was merely a Figure among ciphers.

My brother who is eight years elder than me had been trying hard to fulfill his dream to get into Indian Army. His hard work finally paid off and by God's grace he cleared S.S.B. (Service Selection Board) and passed out as a lieutenant. He always had a dream to provide good education to her sister which was finally achieved when he admitted me in an English medium missionary school.

That was the moment when life struck that proud little girl very hard on face. I couldn't even clear the entrance tests of most of those prestigious schools of my city but eventually managed to make it to one. That seemed a success but it was just the start of a far more torturous and heartbreaking experiences waiting ahead for me. Being the topper of every class until then I could not bear the fact that I was put in the list of below average students of my class and could only manage to score passing marks in exams. The medium of communication used- English, turned  nightmare for me. Being a student of class 7 I couldn't even write one statement in English devoid of grammatical errors. That year of my life shook me from within and made me aware of my grounds and reality of where I actually stood. I let go of my pride and presumptions and devoted myself towards rising up once again through sheer hard work and determination. Gradually I improved and my name was in the list of the toppers of schools for 10th board exams.

This very phase of my life taught me a lot and changed me as a person and I learnt the meaning of real hard work and true excellence.
