Life of a teenager is already filled with immense emotions and confusions. It’s the time in life when you are attempting to find your place and heavily molding your character. Now think of that teen, who comes to the realization that his heart patient mother is also schizophrenic. I was that teen. I would encourage anyone interested to just imagine how my teen years would have gone by and then ask them to double their quantification.
Due to the illness of my mother, it had become my responsibility as a 14 year old to look after the household, do laundry, cook, take care of my little brother and also focus on my education.
I was always a bright and a happy kid. Even after all these tough situations, I was able to pave my way on forward. I was still that bright kid who performed well in all his exams. I had moreover become that adult who could handle all the things that life could possibly throw at him. Maybe just not that happy I guess.
These tough 4 years have of course taken a toll over my personality. I might be quite, shy, serious, awkward, but any day better at handling emotions or extremities.
One could judge me all they want, but they will never know how hard I have fought in life and have kept my sanity in check in the meanwhile.
It was very easy for me to have become a rebel, an outlier and go onto the wrong path. But I could differentiate the right from the wrong and identify that my family needed me, my mother needed me.
Life doesn’t wait for you to be ready. It hits you hard and then it all depends on how you take that jab across your face. Now, do you have the will left to stay in the ring and hit back with an uppercut to the chin? Or are you going to give up and weasel out? It all depends on the fighter! Face the challenge, don’t give up and just know this – “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger!”
