I write today about the joy that Aditya Birla Group gave to few thousands of people a couple of years back when we, the people of Siliguri enjoyed arrival of a brand before the people of kolkata. Forever 21, an exclusive online and offline rights obtained from American fast fashion retailer Forever 21 in India. Always adamant about fashion, I often go along with my family to visit new brands and shop till I drop. Forever 21 gave this platform for both me and my sister. Also, being a native of this small town, we never got to taste newer opportunities first. But, this time the case was different and Siliguri tasted the arrival of Forever 21 before Kolkata.
Founded in 1857 by Seth Shiv Narayan Birla, ABG grew over the years and is now the third-largest Indian private sector conglomerate just behind Tata Group and RIL. With pver 12000 employees, 162 years of history, continuous growing brand ABG has gone about its business without much fuss and looks to grow even further as we grow in our respective careers.
ABG fulfils the three basic necessities of not just mine but every human being’s life – food, clothing and shelter. All the necessary groceries required are made available under one roof of the MORE Mega Store. UltraTech Cement, the reason why the building in which I would reside in my hometown always stands strong and tall. Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited has always satisfied all kinds of clothing requirements – from western to ethnic, party-wear to formals, and so on.
The Aditya Birla Group was, is and will always remain a part of me.
PART - B
Challenges and future ambitions :-
As a teenager, stepping into my adolescence, I found myself standing right in front of my shop with a decision to make. A decision, which would shape my future. My father had suffered from a chronic illness and needed time to recover. I could either be one of those who would give up or be someone who took up the challenge.
Coming from the humble town of Siliguri, I tried grabbing every opportunity I could. Managing my business along with the academics wasn't really a cake walk but it was at this juncture, when I realised the values of hard work, patience and persistence. Participating in various sports events had always been my favourite get away. I also got involved with the ‘YUVA’ program, a student wing of Young Indians, which helped me develop leadership skills with a larger perspective towards nation building activities.
Eagerness to learn and thirst to achieve acted as the biggest motivators. Where I stand today, I have a dream of setting up a manufacturing plant in the near future. But along the journey, I face numerous challenges as well.
Growing up beside my father, I envision myself following his footsteps, leading and expanding his legacy but the lack of modern business techniques encourages me to learn the present practices of the contemporary business houses with the need to upgrade to the fast-paced, dynamic business world. Academics provided me with basic theoretical knowledge relating to a business and MBA will help me complement these with practical experience of the corporate world along with its implementation in the real world. With the aim to learn and grow in today's harsh corporate world, I look forward to this two years in my post-graduate as my learning experiences which will help me achieve my future expectations.
