It was the summer of 2010, when I went to a new grocery retail store. For everything, it was a one-stop market and their focus was one-to deliver quality products. That was just the location where I could find all the food products from the list of my mom and at the most comfort. They had as their logo a blazing red Sun symbol. When I looked closely, the subtext was "Aditya Birla Group" with the motto "Quality 1st".
And that's where ABG group became part of my journey. Under the ABG group, this retail store labeled itself as "More" and made life simpler for many people (until Samara-Amazon acquired it later in 2018). But when I went for my graduation in 2011, ABG group again made a mark on my journey when I purchased my first very own telephone number with Idea network. Since then, I can think of so many times in which ABG group has, time and again, left a mark on my life book pages.
I took my parents and my younger sister to Pantaloons when I received my first salary. For me now it's been four years, and I still enjoy their service. I moved to separate locations with time and then transferred my network to Vodafone and again ABG became part of my life (still is!)
But here this relationship has not stopped. I made it to IIM and the first thing I had to arrange were business formals for orientation. Returning to student life, you tend to enter saving mode and look for prices twice before purchasing without compromising quality. Peter England (PE) came to the rescue for that purpose. Being India's biggest menswear brand and with ABG's trust value, this brand has been a trusted brand and has earned many awards. I was able to discover my formal suit at Peter England, with slim and comfortable styling making it aligned with the latest trend of youth fashion. I can say this for sure that Peter England clothing meets all the needs of the lives of a young professional.
I think there's a synergy here. While making a transformative voyage themselves over the past 20 years, they have also made sure to be part of the transformative journey of their customers. Now Rakshabandhan is coming quickly and my sister is going to be demanding those trendy tops from her favorite brand— Forever 21, which is again part of the ABG group. Thank you for being BIG in my life ABG. I aspire to be part of such group and develop my leadership skills along the mission of ABG to create timeless values for the customers.
How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions in life so far.
It was, when I was asked to work with a team for a project. Managing the team was the challenge as some were from different technical background so they needed training. Others include ones, who were more experienced in different domain. The tasks ranged from knowledge transfer and cross-training them, to presenting solutions to client and allocate work based on the team's competency and understanding of the business. I also had to appear for a professional certificate and plan out for preparation of higher studies. The difficulty increased when best practices were not followed during development due to no past involvement in the current technology and casual attitude of others, given the friendly history with them.
I began with prioritizing work and thinking two steps ahead (what if it does not work and what's next). This helped me streamline my work and set action items. I delegated some action items rather than telling 'how to' which made them feel a sense of obligation. I learned to look problems more objectively. One should not feel to take every task himself but try to go with feeling of trust in others which energizes them too. Also, I learned how to speak with customers.
In less than 2 months, we were able to rollout multi-lingual version of the application in 3 different countries with a scalable solution to support future enhancements. Prioritizing and objectivity at work helped me in my preparation of CAT study as well and I was able to do preparation for what I aspired for – to get into IIM. The challenges faced made me clearer to what I need for myself and how I should approach for it.
