PART A:

Ultratech: The cement that binds my family

Ultratech cement has changed the condition of my family from a poor farming family to urban constructions family.

My father was born in a village near Vellore, Tamil Nadu. He came from a poor farming family. He sold the farming lands to invest in constructions business. He started with small contracts like building compound walls around empty lands. Later, he got contracts to build houses.  He was particular on the quality of cement used in the constructions. Cement is a very important ingredient in constructions. Poor quality cement can lead to weak walls which develop cracks. Seeing a crack develop in a newly built house will give sleepless nights to the house owner. For a contractor to gain new customers, customer satisfaction is very important. So My father wanted to chose a cement brand that ensured that his constructions are strong and made his customers happy.

My father chose UltraTech cement for constructions. He felt that the brand had integrity and quality. Customers liked the quality constructions made by him. We got more customers and more profits.

Eventually, It was our time. We built our own house with UltraTech cement. Building your own house is the dream of many middle-class families and Ultratech was one of the reason for making my family’s dream come true.

My father continues to use Ultratech cement to build houses and buildings. Our customers trust my father and he trusts Ultratech.

Ultratech is a true friend for any constructions businessman as well as for any house owner.

PART B:

Ambition: To be an example

“Mr. D, Vidya’s son, studied in government school and got 1182 marks while you got only 880. I cant show my face outside in the village” said my dramatic grandma after 12th board exam results were announced. Family members who never even called me when I was hospitalised after an accident, called me to ask my marks. Their responses after hearing my marks were all same “I thought you were a bright student. Stop watching Tv. Did you fall in love?”. That was the last I heard from them.

Mr. D, (I haven’t even met him yet), became an example of a good guy who reads well and probably every parents dream child. I decided on that day to become an example. To do something that no one in my village did, to be the first guy from my village to study in an IIM.

Well ambition was set, next step..hmmm will think later. Yeah my good old friend procrastination. He helped me get 880 marks instead of 1150. He was my first challenge.

Life went normally I joined mechatronics course in Kongu engineering college. College life was fun. I was still figuring out what to do. I joined CAT coaching center TIME in third year. Gave it a try, didn’t practice well enough. “Anyway it can be done next year also” was the thought in my mind.

I got placed in an IT company. I was happy to work in an MNC, earning my own money. I forgot about my ambition. I thought working in an IT company was enough example for my village.

Then one fine day, I visited my village during some family function. I met few students there. They were happy to see me. They wanted to be like me, to work in an MNC. They had doubts about IT industry, asked how to get placed there, what books to read etc. 25000Rs salary (3 times their monthly family income) will change their life, their family’s condition. They were motivated to study because of me while I was procrastinating, losing sight of my ambition.

Now I wanted to be an example, not to show I am clever than Mr.D but to be an example that motivates my village students. My aim became solid. I had a purpose. I got motivated. I didn’t procrastinate. I worked day and night ,practiced for CAT during tea breaks. It payed off. I got into IIM Raipur.

“My grandson is studying in a central government college” that’s my grandma. I am happy that she can show her face now to our relatives.

I am happy that I became an example. My wish is more students from my village study in such prestigious institutions.
