MBA from an IIT? Still wondering why I chose to do so. If yes, then read along. Even if you aren't, it will give you a new perspective when it comes to management education.

I need to do something different in my life. Something that no other 'Engineer' would even dare to do after the completion of his/her UG in engineering. What should I do? UPSC? GATE? SSC-CGL?
Life had been really smooth till this happened.
(If you aren't able to figure out this image, then you cant call yourself to be a serious CAT aspirant!)
I felt if Raj can earn get a 10Lac job even after getting a rank of 40000, why can't I?
So, I became a CAT aspirant. Yes, its something no engineer has never done to date.
Fast forward one year -
I am an MBA student planning to major in Marketing and Analytics from IIT Kanpur. Now you may scoff - IIM mila nahi to IIT chala gaya (translating it would make the message duller, sorry!)
But that isn't the scene, I had final converts for the flagship PGP program from 3 relatively new IIMs and even for the PGP-HRM program of a BLACKI IIM.
Self-flattery isn't something I like. But sometimes one goes with the flow to justify a stance.
So, why IITs can be a good option for an MBA -
Tag - We've got to accept the fact that most people go to an IIM for the tag. So, what's wrong with IIT. After interacting with several alumni of top tier B Schools, all they have got to say to me was "5 years down the line, your skills matters. Not your alma mater. No one would give you fat salary checks just by getting aroused by your 'tag'. If you are a one who is tag-hungry, then is an IITian tag that bad?
Lower Fee - Being a person who did his B.Tech. for just Rs. 39700, taking a loan of over 15-20 Lakhs wasn't an appealing option to me. Who would shy away from joining for an MBA program that would fetch opportunities comparable to some of the new IIMs at less than half the investment?
Alumni Base - Once an engineer, always an engineer. You will get acquainted with some of the brightest engineers churned out by this country. Do I need to say something more?
World-Class Faculty - You would be learning management mantras from professors who themselves are the products of top-notch B-Schools having decades of teaching experience.
And, a lot more.
Even today, I believe - 'It doesn't matter where you get into. What matters is what you make out from that place!"
