Being a US $44.3 billion corporation which is a part of the Fortune 500 companies is a major statement in itself. Aditya Birla Corporation has impacted the lives of most of us; especially the living in this great country of ours. With a workforce of around 1,20,000 employees, the company is supported by a strong foundation who are working on the vision of the company to become a premium global conglomerate with a clear focus on each of the businesses and the company is clearly on the right path making strides in every sector that they set their sights on to. Building on the seven decades of robust business practises and strong work ethics have taken the company to even greater heights and the proof is in the success of the company in a wide range of sectors from metal, telecommunications to being one of the leading retail fashion houses in the country with me personally being a huge fan of their fashion brands such as Louie Phillippe and Van Heusen to name a few. Also, with over 50% of the company revenues of the company coming from overseas is evidence that not only is the Aditya Birla Group a major player in India, but globally too. The company does an excellent job of giving back to the society through their Corporate Social Responsibility program with many initiatives and programs such as Aditya Birla Memorial Hospital, Sarala Birla Academy, Aditya Birla Scholarships and the list goes on.
Coming from one of the remotest villages to having the privilege to study in one of the premier business schools in the country, it’s been quite the journey. I was just six years old when my family decided to put me in a boarding school which seemed cruel and at that time but turned out to become one of the most cherished moments of my life for which I thank my father till date. Being in a boarding school taught me a lot of valuable lessons with independence being the most important. Learning to adjust and collaborate with people from all across the country while leaving the comfort of your home at such a tender age prepared me for the outside world at a very early age for the harsh realities that are out there. Along the way, I formed close bonds with a few people and feel proud to call them my brothers. The major learning experience from my friendships was the power of teamwork and how it can take you places. I have also had my fair share of mistakes, joining an engineering college was one of them but, as they say, everyone has their own destiny, in my second year of engineering I met with a terrible accident due to which I was forced to take a year off for medical reasons. It was during this time I had opportunity to contemplate and re-evaluate every aspect of my life, the first and foremost being life is short and you cannot waste it doing things that make you unhappy and hence, I decided to leave engineering and opted to learn management studies. My family and friends have been my constant anchors and been very supportive of me throughout my life and would like to conclude with a quote from a wise man, “If you want to go fast, go alone but if you want to go far, go together.”
