During my engineering days also I had to live in a hostel and when my parents went back after dropping me off on the very first day a of my college I felt sick and suffered from high fever. I had no friends, no vehicle and did not even knew a single doctor in my area and being an introvert person I was I went all alone to the doctor and vomited at the clinic twice. I felt helpless had no one to guide or support me as everyone else was also trying to get accustomed to the place.
Another problem that I realized during my stay at the hostel was the mess food once there was an incident that there were insects found in the food. Sometimes the food was very unhealthy and sometimes there was no choice of food whatever food was prepared we were forced to eat it.
So after first semester there was a selection for student representatives for the Welfare Committee. I was very much motivated to join this committee and contribute whenever and in whatever way possible and make each and everyone feel home away from home. Being a part of the welfare committee gave me the opportunity to interact with the students and the management. I along with my student team members helped to change and bring in new vendors of the hostel mess facility and also convinced the college management to provide a doctor available 24*7 for medical emergencies.
Some past experiences and desire to improve them motivated me to work hard and being in the welfare committee gave me the perfect opportunity to improve others’ lives.
