When I turned 21, my mother gifted me a Van Heusen shirt. This was the first time she decided to splurge Rs. 2,000 for a clothing. She said she wanted the gift to be special as I was entering into a new decade during which I would transition into a man.
I loved the shirt. It is a simple white shirt with blue checks running over it. The collar and cusps are crisp. And the shirt matches well with both grey and black trousers.
If you play sports, you know players tend to be superstitious. I can box, swim, play football and basketball. As a result, I also tend to be superstitious in some aspects of my life.
So I only wear the shirt on special occasions. The first time I wore it was when I was awarded a certificate for securing 1st rank in college in semester five by BMM.co.in at We School, Mumbai. Subsequently, I wore the shirt during the official release of my newspaper, which was a success.
I then cleared the interview for securing admission at the Asian College of Journalism with the same shirt. Eleven months later I secured my first job at The Times Of India during campus placement wearing – guess what? Fast-forward three years into 2019, and I converted TAPMI wearing my lucky shirt. It has been six years, and the shirt has still not lost its lucky charm. Touch wood! The shirt has still managed to retain its style, comfort and quality.
I consider my Van Heusen shirt auspicious as I have always managed to succeed in important phases of my life. Cheers!
