"Opportunities multiply as they are seized"- Colin Wilson. Only after having the opportunity to intern at Medlife International Pvt Ltd, I realised that opportunities do open new paths to learning in the short-run and success in the long-run. One can learn infinitely from a new environment especially when we step out of our comfort-zone. Coming into this position, I lacked confidence about what I could do and what I am really good at. My internship has definitely given me a clearer view of my skill set and where my career will be taking me.

The project was primarily a market research project on OPD Insurance which required the knowledge from various domains like marketing, finance, statistics, law, strategy, commerce and research methodology. The project involved primary research as well as secondary research and gave me an experience in data collection and data analytics. Along with that the project required a cover to cover knowledge of the insurance world. This opened doors for me to gain an in-depth knowledge in the field of insurance. Both in terms of the variety of general and tailor-made insurance schemes available in the market for healthcare sector in particular and other sectors in general.

The project involved proposition of various ideas and strategies as it is one of the most promising projects which is going to be implemented by the company. From preparing the STP strategy, to preparing a marketing mix, to doing a cost and profit analysis, to deciding the various channels to increase the product reach to the consumers, I was able to apply the theory learnt in my college, NMIMS, Bangalore. The knowledge gained was not only project specific but a detailed view on how the company works and how the start-up is expanding at an exceptional speed. The company being an e-commerce firm taught me how to have brand associations and increase sales through multiple channels with minimal cost.

During our tenure we got the opportunity to meet the founders of Medlabs which was a startup acquired by Medlife, which now is the laboratory testing arm of Medlife. The insights of start-up founders are great which turn into ultimate life lessons. Also, working on the competitor analysis of Medlife and Medlabs gave me an insight into fast growing medical e-commerce firms in our country. My mentors Mr.Ashish Somani and Mr. Sagar Gugalia were the most helpful mentors, I have ever had. They cleared each and every doubt I have ever had with a lot of patience. Their attention to details and guidance in the project made it possible for the journey to be an exceptional one.

We witnessed one of the most promising events which was the acquisition of Myra medicines, another e-pharmacy which added new members to the Medlife family. The celebration brought a smile on each and every member’s face with a cute cupcake for every member. Also, in the same huddle we saw the launch of five new advertisements of our own company with new, promising and attractive tag-lines bringing a revolution in the company.

Making a lot of new friends from different colleges and different cities was like an icing on the cake. We worked hard, learned about different cultures and at the same time we enjoyed playing table tennis, carom and foosball. The journey from being colleagues to becoming friends and enjoying team outings and mini-breaks full of happiness and laughter will be clearly etched in my memory and will be cherished throughout my life. It was a great experience to be at Medlife International Pvt Ltd as it has moulded me as a more confident and responsible person to have a prosperous and successful future.
