The seed of the Aditya Birla Group was sown in the 1850s by Seth Shiv Narayan Birla at Pilani in Rajasthan. It was a defining crease on the fabric of Indian history. Amidst the sea of omnipresent struggles of the Indian masses, the Birla group was a glimmer of hope and prosperity for the common people. The group continued to venture into new businesses and strived its efforts towards the revival of Indian economy post Independence. ABG engaged vast workforces, provided employment opportunities, infrastructure development and many other new revenue generating avenues for the Government.
With exemplary visionaries as part of the conglomerate, Aditya Birla Group also led social initiatives, especially in the education and social domain. I always had a hard time understanding Physics at school. I could not fathom the size and gravitational properties of heavenly bodies that kept the solar system revolving. Everything seemed impractical to me. Then I remember having my first peek into the hidden realms of the Universe via the telescopes and displays at Birla Planetarium. I began to appreciate the solar system- the sun, moon and other planets- and its magnanimity. Science lessons learnt in school used to come to life whenever we visited the Birla Science Museum with friends.
The ABG has encouraged the growth of a scientific citizenry with its efforts in the education sector. It has given us world-class stalwart institutes like BIT Mesra and BITS PILANI. I considered my cousin who had passed out of BIT Mesra as my idol. I challenged myself to work through my shortcomings in Science and Mathematics and pursue engineering. My goal was to get into BIT Mesra. The importance of these institutes can never die on students like me who have worked terribly hard to get admitted into one of them, albeit unsuccessfully. ABG also supports scientific research and recognizes efforts in various fields like arts, literature, and science through awards and scholarships by the K.K. Birla Foundation.
I am restless at times and there are times when I just could not be at ease with y thoughts - the usual side effects of teenage minds. My solace used to be the Birla Temple in Kolkata during my college days. Most of us must have visited a Birla temple in any major city. I was always awed by the magnanimity and calmness portrayed by them. Cast in marble or white sandstone and designed with a view to accommodate large numbers of visitors, they symbolize the conglomeration of peace and prosperity.
ABG is one of the greatest connectors on the planet. It continues to connect millions of ideas and aspirations through its telecom networks that are the largest in India. Staying in a new city post getting my first job, I had to connect with my friends and family. Vodafone was the first brand that came to my mind as a reliable friend. I have been using it for the past 4 years now.
Hailing from a small village in Ballia district of Uttar Pradesh, I have witnessed the hardships of transportation and connectivity, especially at nights when it is unsafe to travel on dirt paths. The monsoons brought floods and diseases. We suffered due to the absence of better connectivity.ABG has been facilitating the connection of cities, villages and empowering Indian infrastructure through its large range of aluminum, concrete and cement products. These are used in constructions of roadways, railways, bridges, etc and are changing the face of Indian heartland in a big way.
ABG is also connecting millions of Indians to their dream of a prosperous and secure future through its multiple instruments of investment and insurance products. Starting as a naive investor with no knowledge of financial markets, I chose vehicles of ABG to dump my surplus funds in and I have not been disappointed.
To express our courtesy to this extraordinary conglomerate for its contributions to humanity, one lifetime of gratitude would not suffice.
