Aditya Birla Group is in the league of Fortune 500. It is driven to increase stakeholders’ value with responsible business practices. Be it metals, textiles, cement, telecom and even into groceries, ABG is looking to make an impact everywhere. Having touched so many lives in some way or the other, it is not possible it hasn’t touched mine. Let us see it one by one, aspect by aspect. Transitioning into a corporate life or into a B-School atmosphere demands a lot of checklists to be completed. Formal wear is one of them. It needs a lot of time and you have a lot of choices to choose from. In such a case you trust a brand which has a legacy with affordable price. It was here that Van Heusen came to my aid. The variety of designs even in the formal zone for shirts, trousers and even blazers at such competitive prices is a sense of relief. For people, who are slightly tight on their pockets Peter England is another good choice. The array of clothing doesn’t stop for youngsters or business people. Most of us are in dilemma what to buy as a gift for our dad during his birthday or any occasion you want to. ABG’s brand Linen Club comes as a boon here. Having gifted my father a couple of shirts in past, both of us have been thoroughly impressed and luckily it is one of my few gifts to him that he has liked. The “Health Fabric” gets softer as it is washed and is still in use since 2 years. ABG doesn’t stop at these. Even at small instances in life, like carrying home cooked food on a long journey or a trip has become an enriching experience thanks to it. Hindalco Freshwrapp ensures food remains fresh with the exact same aroma and love my mom cooked the food with. It is one of the few Indian conglomerates who have made an impact worldwide and still continue their legacy with a heavy inclination towards integrity and values.
Organisations are made up of people and everyone has a driving factor that contributes to their success. Also, the idea of success varies per individual. My life has been fairly smooth so far and there is a lot of road still to be covered and lessons to be learnt. One incident that has been thought provoking and attitude shifting is my decision to work in sales. Coming from a family background of academicians, it was never in mind that I would ever learn business at all. Like every Indian teenager studying math, I dreamt to be in a top tier IIT pursuing software engineering. I got a very high scholarship from FIITJEE and the journey began. Till my 10th standard, I had been studying myself. With the influx of coaching and that too intensive, I lost interest in studies. There was much tuition but no self-study. In an amazing turn of events, I even got chicken-pox during intermediate exams and the results were disastrous. From 93.2 per cent in 10th I managed to score just 65.4 per cent in 12th. Slowly, complacency kicked in and I began to feel comfortable and gave in to my mediocrity. It was not until placements started and I started working in sales that the shift began. I grew up from being one of the bottom-most performers to becoming a top level performer. I learnt sales the right way. Reading articles, write-ups on sales, learning from seniors , I slowly pushed my way through to success. Also, since the company was a start-up then, a lot of learning about other verticals in business happened too since I got a chance to work and interact in collaboration with different teams under different verticals from Business Development to HR, Operations and Logistics. There was a complete paradigm-shift in my approach. Sales taught me to be focused, motivated, importance of being energetic and how logically business can be approached. Finally, here at IMT I wish to continue with the momentum I gained and unlock my full potential.
