There was a time not so long ago yet distant, a time when connectivity was one of the greatest tasks faced by our country. Telephone tariffs were still exorbitant and landline telephones were the only communication resource available to the common man. Much in contrast to present culture, communication was still as inflexible as the postal days.
I distinctly remember my childhood days that were spent in the care of my grandmother away from my parents. My father who was in charge of a factory toiled long days in a remote location. He could only talk to his family only when he returned from work, which was late on most days. I remember waiting in the living room for the telephone to ring. However since he didn't have access to a telephone, this was a rare occasion. Most nights I went to bed without speaking to my parents.
However things changed in 2001, When IDEA Cellular started operations in Delhi circle. My father was one of the first people to purchase a mobile handset, which inadvertently was a Nokia handset in those days. The IDEA GSM connection he purchased let me speak with him whenever I wished. He phoned home from his factory every day. I could speak to him right after I got back from school. Thanks to it, I could greatly bond with my parents who were at a distance from me. I was a much happier kid after this event and it the contentment I received is so immeasurable that it cannot be put into words.
