Why Aditya Birla Group is big in your life?
Everywhere I look I see a glimpse of the brand. Shiv Narayan Birla must not be aware he was starting an empire, when he set up the first cotton plant in Pilani. ABG’s flagship Grasim Industries, now a global leader in viscose stable fibre was set up just 10 days after independence. ABG is a leading fortune 500 with over 1,20,000 employees operating in 35 countries.
It has spread its branches across multi variant sectors ranging from cement, chemical, textiles, wind power, telecommunications, aluminium foil, carbon black, retail and trading. It has always focused its strategy around emerging markets like acquiring Novelis to become the world’s largest rolled aluminium producer.
Identifying that India was at a stage where infrastructure establishment needed attention, AGB marketed UltraTech cement to BUILD BEAUTIFUL. I have vivid memories of bags lying around when our house was being constructed. My parents were elated with the final product, our home looked beautiful. More importantly we did not have do any reconstruction for a long time credited to its longevity.
ABG’s presence is dominated wholesomely in both malls and homes via online shopping. I could not think of Business formals shopping without stepping into stores of Allen Solly, Peter England, Van Heusen and Louis Philippe. Pantaloons is literally a part of our lives being the most trusted retail brand. Being obsessed with shoes, I am always for a lookout for aesthetic, affordable ones. Allen Solly is my go-to store now. They have imbibed try and buy online portals in their stores which allow shopping from the comforts of your home and return the product in case it doesn’t fit. I have used this feature on numerous occasions.
Hindalco the premier aluminium foil supplier is the best gift for the packaging industry. I remember how relieved my grandparents and mom were, they could now pack tiffin’s without roti’s becoming soggy anymore. Freshwrapp was an integral part of mom’s kitchen grocery list now. Moreover, the convenient packaging structure and ease of use was icing on the cake. I remember in school, I would wait for break time to enjoy a sumptuous warm lunch.
After all these contributions, it has ramified its reach in CSR impacting lives socially. Starting from healthcare, education, sustainable livelihood programmes to model villages. It has conducted immunisation camps against polio, Vision foundation against cataract, HIV AIDS awareness programmes and many more.
In the field of education projects like GYANRJAN, KHEL, mid-day meal programmes in Keonjhar it is touching lives every day. ABG has joint ventures with Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana and Swatch Bharat Abhiyan. They have chosen 300 villages, aiming to move them out of below poverty line status in a five year timeline.
They are not a conglomerate that focus only on growth, profit and expansion. They aim to touch and impact lives of user and help in upgrading the society around them. The more I see around myself the more integrated I find myself in its products.
How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far?
Iron isn’t formed without external heat and pressure, similarly in life challenges shape us. Chaos teaches us to think out of the box and manage as stated “Chaos is a ladder”.
One of the major hurdles in my life was self-inflected. It was my over thinking and over analysing habit that often made me scrutinize the situation more than required. I would worry over the moon about a simple situation and cause myself a lot stress. Post my Cat examinations I fell sick, was identified with low haemoglobin, low blood pressure, I had become so weak that I had to take saline on random days. It was then that I decided that I needed to take a check on my thinking. My mom advised me to join cult fit. Gyming brought structure to my routine. I could see my health getting better as I focused on eating well and working out. I trained my mind, practised meditation read a lot of books, fostered a puppy. These things made me a calmer person. Stress from an internal source was not a problem anymore. Identifying and accepting my hurdles really helped me overcome it.
Life will obviously throw hurdles my way but I will choose to handle them with poise. There is no growth in stagnancy so uncomfortable situations must be treated as a learning opportunity.
