“Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in our hearts”.
Introspection into how my life has unfolded and how I have grown up to be what I am today brings out a very astonishing fact that brands and businesses have a big role in shaping you. Without taking a second thought I can conclude that Aditya Birla Group (ABG) has definitely been big in my life.
Young, dumb and naive
Heavy bags, morning prayers in the open sunny ground, the torturous classes were the things we all hated about the school, the most important thing we looked forward to during those days were the lunch breaks. The memories of sharing (read snatching) food from our friend’s lunchbox is probably the most significant memory of school days for most of us. As a tall, skinny and naive kid in school, I had built a brand name for bringing the best roti’s to school, and my mother had fooled me to trick that it was her cooking skills that made roti’s remain warm and soft. As a young dumb kid it look me a while before I unfolded the mystery that it was not because of her cooking skills but because of the packaging in aluminium foil – the Freshwrapp aluminium foil by Hindalco that made it remain fresh and tasty even after 4-5 hours (Ok let’s be fair, she made decent roti’s too).
Serving more than 1.2 million customers per month, brands like Freshwrapp and Superwrap now have a place in almost every kitchen and are creating such small and valuable memories in their life’s.
Late teens, wannabe cool kid
A bunch of “Cool” kids decided to be different and not follow the crowd when most of their classmates were discussion Indian cricket and English premier league, they decided to follow motorsport. They started idolizing the likes of Valentino Rossi, Casey Stoner and Fernando Alonso. Little did they appreciate the engineering behind the machines that these legends drove. Little did they know that the tyres in the machine that seem like the least significant part of the machine would be one of the most significant parts of the machine that makes or breaks the race.
Years passed and these wannabe cool kids got a mechanical engineering degree and that’s when the Eureka moment happened, that is when they realised how much of an impact the material of the tyre has on the racing dynamics. It was then that they realised how a business vertical of ABG – the Birla Carbon was silently supplying the best of the best material to the tyre manufacturers and was helping the motorsport athletes and also our personal drives safe and comfortable.
Our latest found monthly picnic spot!
Picnics with the family has evolved over the years, and at its most evolved state, it has taken the form of a monthly visit to More Megastore by ABG. Every month I can see my dad unleashing the kid in him, running around to collect all sorts of weird snacks. I can see my mother unleashing the food expert in her, running around gathering things to cook the latest recipe that she learnt online. I can see my brother unleashing the business leader in himself, strategizing the route to be taken and things to be bought to keep the time and bill in check. When I see them and a thousand other customers spending some quality time with their family, friends and loved ones, memories from fortnightly picnic trips to Cubbon park (in Bangalore) flash through and I am sure 20 years down the line we will start cherishing the small memories from More Store.
There are possibly a ton of other small stories that I can keep listing here, which would fall short to explain the impact ABG has had in my life. These small things will be remaining with me for life and like these small memories, I am sure ABG will be there with me for life.
