Whenever I remember that day of my engineering when I was reading an autobiography of Ghanshyam Das Birla, I still feel goosebumps. He spent his childhood in poverty. He studied only till class fifth and lived with his brother. One day his brother asked why their luck is really bad, why God is not favouring them, They work hard even then also there is no sign of success. Then he told his brother to have faith in hands, these are the only things through which any person can step up the ladder of success. Respect these hands and never ever do any wrong from these hands. And from this thought he created history. He planned to start his Jute business with less money, the British government has rejected this. He applied for loan and land for his factory, this also got rejected. Through his self-belief, he never gave up and succeeded to build 200 companies, various temples, educational institutions, trusts, and hospitals. His inspirational autobiography has given me the direction and confidence to chase my dream.
Today Aditya Birla Group has expanded its business in every field, from cement industry to fashionable clothes of brands like Allen Solly, Van Heusen from Pantaloons. I know everybody in my age group has spent childhood watching ad of Idea Cellular “What an Idea Sirji ”. Aditya Birla Group has been serving people from more than 120 years by providing various products and services not only in India but in the world. It would be a great opportunity to join the Aditya Birla Group in the future where I will enhance my overall personality.
Constantly Challenge Yourself
Since childhood, I have always believed in Karma. I was in 8th standard when my grandfather explained to me the importance of karma using shloka from Gita - “Karmanye vadhikaraste Ma Phaleshu Kadachana”. This sholka has tremendously changed my attitude towards work and duties and also helped me to reach NASA from a small town. And from then I never saw back in my life. I have faced so many challenges in life. In some challenges, I failed to achieve what I had thought, but only because of this sholka I kept working hard, irrespective of failures. This sholka has helped me in every situation to stand out of league whenever God has thrown a tough situation in my life.
One of the incident I would like discuss when I was in third year of college. My team was working for 3 - 4 months on NASA Lunar Rover Challenge project. Only 4 teams from each country were selected. College authority, sponsors and media were excited as we were representing INDIA. Just before two days when we have to leave for the US, our drivers were practising as usual when they meet with an accident. They got small injuries but the vehicle chassis broke. Everyone lost hope, thinking about how we can fabricate our chassis back in two days.
As the technical lead of the project, I could not give up easily. Being optimistic in nature, I started visualizing success. Gita sholka had helped to bonce me to bonce back from the negative state of my mind. I convinced my team to give our best for the continuous 36 hours, the equivalent to 12 days of our usual work schedule. By instilling self-belief, I divided all task with their deadlines among the team. Fortunately, everything worked as per plan and our rover was back on its four wheels just 5 hours before boarding the flight. Form this achievement, I learned failure can hit us anytime. But the best way to deal with it is to accept failure, think logically how to fix rather to be upset. Divide tasks into smaller parts when the deadline is close and be accountable for one's actions.
