Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life?

Aditya Birla Group, the private conglomerate which was founded 162 years ago in India is now operating in 35 countries with a workforce of over 120,000. The group has industries spanning from carbon, retail, fashion, BPO, telecom, financial services, etc. It has transformed the lives of people worldwide.

The first place that comes to my mind when I think of shopping is Pantaloons. It has become the favorite shopping destination for me and my friends for the past 7 years. Pantaloons is a go-to place to shop for the whole family, it provides outfits for kids as well as adults with its collection ranging from casual wear, western and ethnic which fulfills the need in any occasion. ABG’s Peter England has always been the most preferred by men in my family. Van Heusen and Allen Solly have been a great help in buying formals while entering B-school.

As a kid, the only lunch I carried to school was parathas wrapped in “Fresh-wrap Aluminium foil”. I cannot imagine tiffin boxes without it. ABG’s Ultratech Cement provides a solution for the specific needs of its customers which is for individual home builders and also for large projects. I remember this being used for the construction of my father’s shop and our home renovation

When I hear any idea or something pops in my mind suddenly, then the first thing I utter is “What an Idea Sirji!” and this comes from the television advertisement of ABG’s Idea which has now merged with Vodafone, the largest telecom service provider of India. The 4G network is need of the hour and I use Idea’s service for it.

ABG works with WHO, NABARD, Art of Living foundation, Smile foundation and other such organizations and NGOs to improve the lives of the underprivileged and reaches to about 7.5 million people annually. They work in around 5000 villages and has impacted the many by these welfare-driven activities.

ABG has transformed the lifestyles of many people across the world and has become a significant part of my life.

How I overcame challenges to achieve ambitions in life

Life is not a bed of roses, here nothing comes easy, and we have to fight the challenges that come our way. It’s not whether we get knocked out, it’s whether we get up again.

I faced major challenges while I was working with Accenture. Being introvert and inexpressive is something that is not very much welcomed in the corporate world. As soon as I joined the project, there were so many responsibilities handed over to me, I was very new to the tools and technologies they used and had a little knowledge of the client’s requirements. Because of my introvert nature, I could not reach out to people in the team for help and struggled a lot in the initial days. I faced escalations which impacted my performance evaluation. At times, I felt extremely demotivated and thought of quitting my job which was not a permanent solution to it.

As said by Roger Crawford, “Being challenged in life is inevitable, being defeated is optional”, I started self-introspection and took suggestions from friends and family. This helped me in understanding my difficulty. Then I took up tasks where I had to reach out to several people in the team to get the work done. This is when I started interacting with everyone in our team and got to learn about so many aspects of our daily deliverables. I made new friends and got a healthy environment to work. I also organized many team engagement activities where others like me would be able to open up with the team.

I became well acquainted with the end to end functionalities and was the point of contact for the team. Seeing my growth I was assigned a complete module of the project where I worked single-handedly, interacted with the clients and deliver the work on time. I received positive feedback from my supervisor and teammates. I was also awarded ‘Employee of the month’ for delivering critical modules of the project efficiently.

I came out of my comfort zone and focused on being a better performer every day. Challenges bring out a better version of ourselves. We succeed when we persevere and start finding joy in overcoming obstacles.
