Aditya Birla Group, a name known in every household, has grown from a 2-billion-dollar company to a 44.3-billion-dollar company. It was under the vision of Mr. Aditya Vikram Birla that the group's flagship brand Grasim made its presence internationally in 1947 and after that, the company grew to have a presence in 34 countries altogether. As one of the biggest conglomerate of India, the group is the key player in aluminium rolling, viscose staple fibre, carbon black, telecom, cement, insulators and many more. The values or the power of 5(integrity, commitment, passion, speed, seamlessness) that the leadership holds at the epicentre of the organization is commendable and something to look forward to. The group not only exemplifies understanding the need for values and ethics but also understands the humanitarian part of employs, thus bagging the AON best employer in India for 2018 and Top companies for a leader in 2011.
The company works for society as well by providing access to health care, education, sustainable livelihood, and woman empowerment by reaching out to over 7.5 million people via Aditya Birla centre for community initiatives and rural developments. Validating the multiple areas of work the group does, the logo itself signifies the sun which is radiating into multiple rays. ABG's futuristic vision has helped this country's economic growth by boosting employment and education. Finally, the company's vision of being a premium conglomerate globally while providing the best of service to all the stakeholders is something to look forward to. Only time will be the witness to the new heights Aditya Birla Group reaches.
Aditya Birla Group has succeeded to fill the gap between customer requirements and existing choices with such a wide range of products and services. I remember, during 1999 super cyclone in Odisha lot of my neighbours did not have a house made of cement. They took shelter in our home, my mother used to cook for 80 people each day to make sure they are well fed. After that incident people understood the importance of a cement ceiling. Ultratech, being a renowned player in the industry of cement has contributed to building a lot of homes, with their quality and values as a key contributor to its rise. As a teenager, I used to live in Cuttack which is a tier 3 city in the state of Odisha. Even though the city is known for its textile sales (mostly in cheaper prices) it still did not have
many choices for gents clothing and kids' fashion. It was only after PETER ENGLAND and Louis Philippe has opened up in Cuttack (and I believe in most of Tier 3 cities) people are really excited to buy from their stores, of course, because of the wide range of products they offer, the brand value associated with it. A quality product is such a thing that is already associated with the ABG brand, but most importantly their reach is also commendable in this case.
All in all, that’s the specialty of Aditya Birla group, they come up with innovative ideas, each customised for different cases and trademarked for success. Not only do they helped me in overcoming my challenges, but also many like me. Hopefully, this trend will continue for the company.
Challenges I have overcame so far:
When I got my first job after graduation it required me to move to Pune, which was far away from my home. It got me a little worried provided I had never even travelled to a place out of my state. It was obviously new for me, but I was also excited because of a couple of my friends from undergrad were placed at the same company and we can probably live together. The thought of complete social and economic independence along with a few of my best girls was like a cherry on top for me.
Then life hit me hard when I got posted in Kolkata, alone, after 2 months of training. I was upset, but I had to move anyway. I would lie if I say I didn’t think about quitting, but I had no other plans except that job. I still remember arriving at Kolkata without any kind of contact or acquaintance, not knowing whether I could survive in a whole new city or not. I checked into my hotel room, and oh my boss called me summoning immediately to the office. I booked a cab and rushed to the office. My new boss was not nice (or so I thought), hence I got a warning on the very first day itself for being late. Since I could not stay at the hotel forever because of obvious monetary insufficiency, I started looking for accommodation immediately after office.
It was an evening, the sky was pouring like cats and dogs. I got into an auto stating the address quoted by the broker. When I was in the auto, I did not like the demeanour of the driver. When I checked the google map, I was right, he was taking me in a different
direction. I still get goosebumps thinking about that evening. I told him explicitly to stop the auto but he did not listen. At that moment, I did not think twice and jumped from the running auto, fell on the road, battered and bruised. There was a chai shop nearby in the empty road. Somehow, I had the strength to get up and call my mother to calm myself. There was a government office nearby and I requested the guards to drop me to the hotel, they were kind enough to entertain my plea.
I dropped a mail to my boss stating the incident and booked a flight straight to home. I stayed there for one week pondering over my ability to stay independent, alone in a city. With my parent's blessing, I thought of striving and came back to my workplace after one
week. Eventually, I made it through with the mental support that my parents gave me. I made friends in my workplace and thrived well in the work environment. However, the mental trauma I faced in that one evening is still chilling afresh. Given the condition of
woman safety in this country working woman faces a lot of disadvantage and unfortunate situations. It’s high time to take some action to change such fates. Overcoming a challenge is not always a man's job, sometimes our family and friends become our strength. If we
are fortunate enough to have these people around we should cherish them as much as we can.
