A. Why Aditya Birla Group is big in my life ?
In the bigger scheme of things in life, we often tend to overlook the smaller stuff that makes and shapes our life in a way. We take such things for granted. For example, in my case, it was the house I live in where I get a sense of safety and belonging, the clothes I wear that shaped my fashion outlook, the ease with which I do online payments via UPI, the uninterrupted and seamless calls that I’m able to make to connect with my near and dear ones, the food that I eat or even something as seemingly unimportant as the aluminium foil that my mother has been using to keep the food in my tiffin box warm.
What is common link in all these? Well, all of these have a connection to the Aditya Birla Group. The cement that has been used to build the house – Ultratech Cement, the branded clothes – Allen Solly, Louis Philippe, etc., the app that I use to make hassle free transactions – BHIM ABPB, the network provider that ensures the seamless connectivity – Vodafone, the fertilizers that are used in crops by farmers – Indo Gulf Fertilizers, the aluminium foil – Freshwrapp. Basically, it has managed to touch upon all the three essentials in our life – “Roti, Kapda aur Makaan!” and not only this, the Aditya Birla Group has also ventured into the education sector by opening the Aditya Birla Public Schools in Renukoot, Renusgar and Rehla and thereby ensuring quality education.
To sum up, the 162 year old, global conglomerate has made its mark on a wide range of sectors. From branded apparel to metals and cement, from insulators and carbon black to financial services, from chemicals and fertilizers to BPO and IT services! As such, there can hardly be any person, especially an Indian, who has not come across an Aditya Birla Group product in his or her life. It has permeated in our life in a way that makes it inseparable and rather makes it an indispensable part of our lives.
B. How I overcame challenges to achieve my ambitions in life ?
One of the biggest challenges I faced was when I had to shift from Guwahati to Bangalore. Ever since I was a kid, I stayed at Guwahati itself. Did my entire schooling and even my engineering from there. Hence, there was always this comfort of knowing that my family was around me and they would have my back even at the slightest of inconvenience. Things were as convenient as they could get. However, like they say, change is the only constant. After I finished my engineering, I got a job and was given Bangalore as the location. Although, excited initially, there was this lingering thought of moving away from the comfort of my home and being completely on my own. But this was something that was out of my control and I had to move to Bangalore.
I also wanted to pursue MBA and thought I’d continue my studies along with the job. But little did I know what was in store for me. Being in a big city like Bangalore, there are distractions staring at you from every corner and no one to bring you back to reality and on top of that the rigorous work life. It was very overwhelming and I found myself involved in everything else other than studies. Then came CAT and I screwed it up. This was an eye opener and I realized that it was important that I keep my focus and not deviate from the goal that I had set my eyes on. The next year I decided to keep myself constrained to home – office – home. I stopped everything else and devoted myself to studies and did what was expected of me at work. Then came CAT, again. Did better, much better. And here I am today, pursuing my MBA from IIM Ranchi!
