How do you overcome difficulties?
I am an individual who now believes that challenges are good. I strongly believe that challenges are the situations that put you under pressure and actually bring out the best in you. They motivate or force you to explore a part of you that you yourself were never aware about. They help you to grow on a personal level because they teach you to deal with pressure and build endurance. Talking about the challenges I faced, the top on the list would be learning software in a stream that I had no experience or idea about. After being placed at Edelweiss Tokio Life insurance in the Marketing department, I was soon chosen for a cross functional project with the Corporate Center team. The project was to learn a software called “Tableau”. Since the corporate center worked with a lot of data, they wanted me to learn the software to present the data graphically. Tableau was software that helped to create visual representations of data through charts, bar graphs, pie charts etc. As the dashboards created through Tableau were very interactive, an individual could filter out data and the changes would reflect on the screen. As 1 dashboard was enough to show years of data, Tableau is one of the leading data analytics software. I was given a task to learn Tableau with no support at all since nobody else in the organisation knew how to use it. At first, I could not meet the daily deadlines of the tasks since the complex software required deep understanding of formulas. After a month filled with anxiety, I decided to join an offline crash course which was 2 hours away from my house. I learned through YouTube videos during the week and at the class on weekends. Finally after 2 months of working 7 days a week, I was able to deliver complex and interactive dashboards. I could also automate a few repetitive processes through the use of the software.
I can conclude by saying that persistence is the key. I think every challenge can be overcome with great perseverance and hard work. Every challenge helps you identify a side of you that you are not aware about.
