After shifting to campus life again from a corporate life of 3 years at Infosys, the first thing here at SJMSOM that attracted me was the campus of IIT Bombay. I remember my initial reaction during the interview process – “It’s huge!”. True to its brand name, it remains active throughout the day and night. The first thing I’m going to highlight is the sports culture prevalent here.
The campus boasts of nearly every outdoor and indoor sports – Football, Cricket, Badminton, Tennis, Table Tennis, Basketball and last but not the least, my personal favourite – Swimming. Moreover, there are fitness training camps held such as Aerobics, Zumba, Yoga, Martial arts and Boxing. I tried my hands in boxing for the first time and well, it was straining but fun.
From a business school perspective, classrooms, large auditoriums, labs – everything is here. The special mention would be the library – both the school and the central library. More often than not, students are found studying, researching or brainstorming about projects with the help of a vast amount of offline and online resources.
Continuum – the rolling seminar series encompassing various management domains and Diksha- the lecture series where prominent leaders from industry and academia share their thoughts and views are very important pillars in our education here. The practical first-hand perspectives of the distinguished speakers often lead us to understand issues which might not be visible in traditional textbooks.
Then there are fests- Business fest of SJMSOM “Avenues” and Sports fest “Prithvi”. Both of them comprise of many events and teams representing many business schools. But it doesn’t end here. There are IIT fests too, which are also occasions for b school students to manage and execute. There’s Mood Indigo – Asia’s largest cultural fest, Tech fest and Abhyuday- the social fest along with hostel fests. Each of these occasions is filled with yearlong preparations, fun, thrill and the satisfaction of execution.
To sum it up, amidst all these activities and instances, the topmost uniqueness is the underlying energy in the campus. It forms the heart of the campus along with the greenery; and this creates an atmosphere conducive to personal and professional development at its finest.
Which ABG company would I want to work for and why?
I would like to work for Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited. It is not just limited to the company, but the opportunity to be associated with brands which I personally use on a daily basis – such as Louis Philippe, Allen Solly is truly exciting for me. Fashion is an expression of innate happiness and personality. I would love to take forward my career by working with a company like ABFRL where I can make an impact in people’s lives.
