Saas, Bahu aur Saazish-Our Expectations from the new HRD Minister

Saas, Bahu aur Saazish-Our Expectations from the new HRD Minister

The bahu of the nation is settling into her role as the Honorable Human Resource Development minister of the country amidst heavy controversy about her academic credentials. The reason for such vigorous debate on her credentials has been because of the criticality of her position. For India to be able to leverage the strength of its youth and to develop its younger population better, education is the sole key. She has time and again requested her detractors to let her work speak for her and the nation is now waiting to see how she proves herself by her work.

Times of India Movie Reviews: The Freakonomical Scam Underneath (Part Two)

Times of India Movie Reviews: The Freakonomical Scam Underneath (Part Two)

So ever since I wrote on this topic (read Part One here), I have been getting congratulatory emails, requests for the data I used to run the analysis and a few emails/ comments on my post contesting the validity of the analysis. I think some people didn’t really get it. What I had analyzed, hypothesized and then proven using data was that the gap in movie review ratings between TOI and IMDB (and not the actual rating on TOI itself) moves up whenever there is a bankable star in a movie.

Convergent Innovation: Can it solve complex development problems?

Convergent Innovation: Can it solve complex development problems?

The main challenge of Indian agriculture is usually seen as productivity, and that too with a focus on the staple crops of wheat and rice. The government’s support system has also been focused on these crops – earlier through an effort to develop new varieties, and now through an elaborate system of procurement at minimum support prices.

IIM Calcutta takes the extra effort to support Differently Abled Students

Come next term, IIM Calcutta is gearing to go quite a few steps ahead in supporting the Differently Abled students of its flagship MBA program. The institute is in talks with Webel, a non-profit government organization, to set up a centre for differently abled students. This centre aims at providing adequate support to these students primarily from the perspective of academics. The centre will jointly be managed by IIM Calcutta staff and a representation from Webel who has expertise in handling issues related to this section of students. This contract with Webel which is in the negotiations stage will initially serve the visually challenged students and subsequently cover students facing other challenges too.

Breaking Stereotypes: In search of a risk-free MBA Grad

Breaking Stereotypes: In search of a risk-free MBA Grad

After having spent a year in a B-school with only few months left to go, I believe that 1 or 2 years is a significant part of one’s life. ‘Experience’ is probably the right word in my opinion. Treat these 2 years as an experience and you shall probably make the most of it. However, flipping through the pages of the past, all that comes to my mind are the myriads of human instincts in an MBA college. Call it following tradition or basic human behavior, we all fit into at least one of these categories. If we don’t, we obviously are not a risk-free MBA student... rather someone breaking stereotypes, someone I’m yet to meet.
