On the ebullient day of June 25, with the buoyant sun overhead, I left to the City of Joy, Kolkata to transform my dream into a reality. I was greeted with a flurry of the South-West monsoon. I reached the management abode called Indian Institute of Foreign Trade that was imposing in the serene neighborhood of Chowbaga.
One of the most interesting stages in life that gives us an opportunity to explore is the ‘college phase’. Life at college is the time when the teenage years end and we all dive deep into the ocean of new beginnings and possibilities. This golden period better equips us for all the challenges we’ll face in life and creates a strong foundation of knowledge.
It was a month of June and the rains of Kolkata were in their full glory to welcome the incoming batch of IIFT MBA (IB) 2018-20.
Selecting best of the best is one of the toughest decisions in life. I had conversion calls from all new IIMs, but selection had to be more judgemental. I started drafting different parameters to validate my decision. Faculty, exposure, learning opportunities, campus support system, placements, campus life and peer learning were some parameter on which my decision had to be based on. After spending complete 15 days of research on B-school, IIM Udaipur was considered to be my first choice.
Should I quit my job? Should I change my career path? Will this be the right thing for me? There was a time when all these impromptu questions were popping in my mind, a time when I was really confused what I wanted from life, a time when I knew I had to take some serious decisions. And with all these piles of thoughts, I started preparing for B-School exams. This was a year back then, and now I am sitting in my XIMB hostel jotting down this article.
The moment I landed in Bhubaneswar I felt an unusual rush of energy flowing through my blood. I was brought up in West Bengal and I did my schooling to college over there. I worked in TCS and it was based in Kolkata. Therefore I never had a chance to experience a life outside my home. So when I got selected in XIMB for my management studies which is a residential program I got really excited to enjoy my hostel life, life without my home. And XIMB hasn’t disappointed me till yet.

It wasn’t very long ago that I used to wake up at 11 AM and carry on with my day. Wasn’t very long ago that I’d spend the whole night browsing through the internet for movies and series. Wasn’t very long ago that I used to stay put in my room. Any fresh engineering graduate would definitely relate to this. However, all of that changed the moment I stepped in the campus of XIMB.
