We are more than halfway to our one-year roller coaster MBA program but still not able to come up with a sustainable plan! Yes, it is MBA, which will prepare you to handle madness, chaos and success if nothing else.
It was July 30, 16:30, Saturday was the day. I was sitting idle in my office, solving aptitude questions and then I received a call from my father. The first line quoted "Beta, tereko IIM Bodh Gaya se admission offer Aaya hai" (Son, you received an admission offer from IIM Bodh Gaya). I disconnected the call immediately and checked my email inbox. I was rejoiced to see the admission offer letter. My mind drifted back to the moment where it all started, The day I solved my first quant question. I still remember the sheer rush of blood and exhilaration I experienced at the prospect of preparing for CAT. The two years of hard work finally bore a fruit whose name was "IIM". That was the day I made my parents proud for the first time in my life.
The Leadership Series going on in full swing had reverent corporate leaders visiting the campus one after the other. The second week witnessed esteemed people sharing their insights and views on various topics.
i5 Summit 2018, the only summit of its kind jointly hosted by an IIM and an IIT, is to be held on 18th and 19th August, 2018 at IIM Indore. As a result of this unique collaboration between IIM Indore and IIT Indore, aspiring entrepreneurs, startup founders and CxOs, venture capital firms and angel investors, and students get to interact with each other through panel discussions, speaker series, informal meets and certified workshops. The most eagerly awaited events in the summit are Get Funded, Social Entrepreneur and Startup Expo. In Get Funded and Social Entrepreneur, shortlisted startups pitch their business idea to investors and obtain funding offers, while in Startup Expo entrepreneurs from all over India get to showcase their brand.
Yes, you guessed it right, ‘Patel’ this surname does belong to a typical gujju boy whose life events are very much aligned with Iron Man of India - Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, (born at the same place as him - Vallabh Vidyanagar & my B. Tech alma matter was Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology Surat). In the spirit of full disclosure, here is my short CV.
To draw an analogy I would say that the first month at TISS has laid the foundation for the two-year journey here. The one month here has been full of chaos, from attending guest lectures, plant visits to numerous assignments and I can draw a parallel with my engineering days. But the rate at which circumstances/situations change here is inversely proportional to the reaction time for it. And I would say that this is something which prepares me competently for the subsequent challenges.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Shillong organised the third edition of the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Lecture Series 2018 on July 27th to mark the death anniversary of former President, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The lecture which commenced with an intriguing invocation was followed by Director Prof. Keya Sengupta, Director, IIM Shillong reminiscing on how “Dr. Kalam’s teachings, through close angles, has helped nurture and develop the personality of the young and dynamic leaders emerging out of IIM Shillong who can finally shape the future business landscape.”
