What Does It Mean To Be A Part Of An IIM Fraternity?
No matter how long it takes, no matter how many times you fail, few things in life are worth the wait. The wait ended for us a few days back when we stepped into IIM Rohtak.

The journey for me started on a cool and calm morning in Visakhapatnam, when my train arrived at the city of destiny, when you are being welcomed by the breeze coming from the sea after landing on the city of destiny, the financial capital of newly formed Andhra Pradesh.
It starts with the light going on your phone. (Let’s call it the b-school version of the Deathly Hallows, in reverse order) It’s something that b-school students will supposedly end up getting used to in a while. It could be the wake-up alarm that’s been snoozed thrice already. Let’s face it; your planning skills will get honed to the extent that you can predict in quantifiable terms how much you will procrastinate. The Invisibility Cloak will come off, and it is time to be visible to the world in both body and mind.
“When to the sessions of sweet silent thought I summon up remembrance of things past” – William Shakespeare
What is the first thing that you look forward to after joining college? New people? New friends? A new environment, possibly away from one in your hometown you have so grown accustomed to? A journey that will make you ride an emotional wave with its fair share of crests and troughs before you reach your ultimate destination?
It is strange how sometimes we randomly find things which we didn’t even know were missing in our lives (close enough to Latent needs in Marketing terminology?). I remember, at some point in time during the sixth semester of my B.Tech, being utterly clueless about what was missing in my life I decided to give CAT a shot. We all strive throughout our lives to rise above mediocrity. Hence studying in an IIM was always ‘The Dream’, but my preliminary research taught me, simply a good score in CAT can’t fetch you your dream. A large portion of my CAT interview comprised of me arguing with the panellists how I think CAT’s policy of providing an extra weightage based on work experience is unfair and increases the challenge for freshers to get into good b-schools. That day was the beginning of the journey where we have to prove our worth at every point to make ourselves noticeable in the harsh lifeless corporate world.
As the world celebrated third international yoga day with a positive and enthusiastic spirit, it was also observed with the same passion at Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi. This day was on its own a key day for FMS as we were welcoming the new MBA Full Time Batch of 2019, and we were marking the beginning of a new era at FMS under our new Dean Dr Sunita Singh Sengupta. As our honourable dean says “there is nothing more spiritual to start the induction programme than celebrating International Yoga Day”.
Getting selected to IIM Ranchi, one of the premier b-schools in India is euphoric itself, but then the real challenge begins when you have to mix, work and compete with the best all at the same time.
