A Journey From A Not An XLRI Sentimentalist Fanboy To A Sappy Monster - One Last Term At XLRI
I was not an XL sentimentalist fanboy.
I was not an XL sentimentalist fanboy.
Bustling through the waves, holding the ropes together and piercing through each rising tide - these words may appropriately describe a ship sailing successfully through a rough voyage but if you were a part of the first semester, you’d see striking similarities in your predicament. Let me tweak this a bit - Rising waves of assignments, holding everyone together in group assignments and maintaining a calm in the chaos of academics, summer placements and competition- these were our set of obstacles. But we sailed through all the tumult to find ourselves on our way to an order - an order within ourselves.
On November 21st, IIM Indore proudly hosted the HULT prize @ campus, the world’s largest student competition for social entrepreneurship. Called the "Nobel Prize for students" by media outlets world-wide, the Hult Prize is offered in partnership with former US President Bill Clinton and the Clinton Global Initiative. President Bill Clinton selects the challenge topic every year and announces the winner each September. The issue addressed this year is: Reawakening Human Potential: The Refugee Opportunity.
To folks who don’t know what the Himalayan Outbound Program (HOP) is - it is a legitimate course with credits which is offered to the final year students belonging to certain IIMs (Like IIM Indore). The participants are required to trek up to altitudes of around 10,000 to 12,000 ft, for a period of three to four days at selected locations in the Himalayas, and take part in adventure activities and group tasks. Gift vouchers and other prizes are awarded to groups which perform well during these treks and activates. The programs are usually organised and conducted by vendors such as Indiahikes and TSAF.
So, I have decided to write about a day in the life of a typical student of IIM Lucknow. More so, because the moderators asked.
MISB Bocconi is comfortably situated in one of the most aristocratic locations of Mumbai, Powai. Powai offers a wide range of opportunities not only for personal needs but also for professional.
The day begins with an unfriendly noise of the alarm at 06:30 am followed by some mental debate if there’s more time to sleep or not. There isn’t, so the debate sees a clear winner always. Some yoga to keep the mind, body and soul together consumes another 15 min. And then the song from Taare Zameen Par buzzes through every RBC of your body, Jame Raho. Rushing against time, getting ready, and trying to convince your mother that you’ve had enough food, gives you the entry ticket to the outside world of reality, every day.
My journey with MISB Bocconi started when I experienced one lecture as a prospective student. Not knowing what Supply Chain Management really was, I was almost under a spell when Prof. Thanos Papadimitrou was teaching. His practical experience combined with his knowledge had me really impressed. It was at this time I realised that some of the word’s best faculty comes down to teach and to share their vast expanse of wisdom.
