"The First of its Kind" Induction Programme @ IIM Ranchi: Welcoming Newness in a Fresh Way !

The two-week long induction program for 2015-2017 PGDM and PGDHRM batches served its purpose of ice-breaking, bonding and information sharing, all while living up to the brand value of an IIM. Unlike the expectations of the students, the learning commenced right from day 1 (day zero being reserved for registration process), yet it was ensured that the students aren’t dismayed but amused. It began on 13th June with Dean, Prof. (Dr.)  Pradip Kumar Bala addressing the entire batch with a welcome speech focusing on the mission and vision of IIM Ranchi. This was followed by the welcome speech by Director, Prof. Anindya Sen who motivated the students to work brilliantly while maintaining a personal philosophy of life. The entire induction program was meticulously designed by Prof. Gaurav Marathe.

IIM Shillong students Danced Away With Absolute Élan

Yes, we have hectic and jam-packed schedules throughout the day! Yes, we have multiple assignments to submit in a day! Yes, we have numerous competitions, case studies and deadlines to meet! Yes, we have too much on our plate! But that does not stop us from mining out some time, out of nowhere, to splurge it on little happiness of life. In an IIM, of all the things we learn, the most crucial learning of all time is that time is always short in life. So here in an IIM, we never get time but we have to make time. So when the Cultural Committee of our college arranged workshop for us to learn western dance forms, I grabbed the opportunity with open arms. Nothing can satisfy us more than indulging into activities which interest us. So every day, for the next 10 days, I dedicated two hours on learning something which I love- Dancing.

A Life Beyond Placements

A Life Beyond Placements

So often during the admission season, the IIM life is only seen through the miniscule lens of placements. There can be no denying that placements are an integral and much sought-after part of this entire MBA journey, but the vistas of knowledge, experience and learning must not go understated. From the moment we step in- in our case “Aarambh” to the very last day at IIM Rohtak, it is a revered learning experience with value addition from all corners. Peer learning, diverse student body, campus life, interactions with the best faculty- it is indeed a privilege to be part of the smartest community in our country. Let it be academic projects, competitions or the student driven committees, this two year sojourn in life’s journey is an unparalleled experience.

IIMian and Not an Engineer

IIMian and Not an Engineer

With the discouraging preponderance of engineering and management students in B schools in India, one might get the impression that there is not much space for non-engineering students in Indian Business school milieu. Completing my graduation from Delhi University with an honors course in Geography, I shared that similar anxiety and skepticism that many like me do - Is management a good future course for me? Will my non-engineering background hamper my chances to get into a premier B school?
